00:00In other news, the 17 Filipinos who were freed by the Huti group returned to their country after more than a year.
00:07They will remain in Metro Manila for medical procedures before they are sent to their respective provinces.
00:14This is the news of Jamie Santos.
00:18After more than a year, the 17 seafarers who were freed in Yemen returned to their country in November 2023.
00:26They were met last night at IE Terminal 1 by government officials.
00:31When the ceasefire happened in Gaza, immediately they talked to the Hutis, sent the plane to collect our seafarers and bring them to Muscat.
00:46And from Muscat, our embassy took over.
00:51They had of course their medical checkup and the review of their documents.
00:59And immediately we booked them for this flight.
01:02So now we are happy that they are here.
01:04This is a very important topic for our president.
01:07You will remember, in December 2023, he canceled his trip to the UAE for the COP because it was just weeks after this.
01:22And he gave orders to Secretary Kakdad to ask, work on it.
01:28We did.
01:30In the image from the Department of Migrant Workers or DMW,
01:34a tight hug and kiss was given to the seafarers who were freed by the Filipino crew of their families.
01:41The seafarers were not forced to face the media as a protocol for them to reunite with their families.
01:48This is what this exercise is all about tonight.
01:52It's more about the families reuniting.
01:56And it already happened.
01:58We're giving them time to be together.
02:01According to the officials of our government, the seafarers arrived in high spirits.
02:07The assistance and benefits of the government to the seafarers,
02:13such as financial assistance, psychosocial intervention, scholarship and livelihood, are continuous.
02:19We provided the necessary financial and medical and even spiritual guidance along the way.
02:27But the assistance won't end here.
02:30We will continue to provide the necessary assistance through our action fund, our humanitarian assistance, as the days unfold.
02:41Some of them are symptomatic for some infections.
02:44Not serious, but a lot of things can happen in 428 days.
02:49We don't even know if they had access to medical services while they were in captivity.
02:53So that's one, medical.
02:55I'm not visibly in pain or anything.
02:58The DOTR also promised that their seaman's book will be renewed.
03:02We will make sure that this will be renewed because they need to be reunited with their families.
03:12After having a good rest or vacation, they can go back to work.
03:20The seafarers will stay here in Metro Manila for medical procedures.
03:25After this, they will be transported to their respective provinces.
03:30The government said that their money agencies will be responsible for this.
03:34President Bongbong Marcos was the first to thank the Sultan of Oman
03:38and his government for negotiating for the safe release of the Filipinos.
03:45Jamie Santos reports for Jimmy Integrated News.
03:51The United States was pleased with the release of the crew members of the MV Galaxy Leader,
03:54which includes 17 Filipinos.
03:57In the statement of the U.S. State Department,
03:59they also thanked the Sultanate of Oman for their actions to free the crew members.
04:05At the same time, they called on the Huti group to stop their unlawful or violation of the law
04:10by attacking the Red Sea and freeing all of their detainees.
