00:00Just before we crossed to you we heard a Chinese government spokesperson saying
00:04there are no winners in a trade war and I just want to sort of unpack that a
00:08little bit more because there is a risk isn't there of tariffs actually
00:13boomeranging and damaging the United States economy isn't it?
00:17Well there's certainly a danger of retaliation. I know a number of
00:21countries are you know considering retaliation. One of the trademarks of the
00:26president and certainly this was true during his first term is that if their
00:31country is willing to engage in a reciprocal trading relationship and a
00:35fair trading relationship he is willing to talk to those governments and work
00:39through these problems. He's even you know indicated that he's open to
00:44discussing the trading relationship with China. Now there is a frustration that
00:49you know he believes the Chinese government may not have lived up to
00:52their phase one commitments under the first negotiation. So I think that would
00:56be the place to start. But if there's a willingness to truly engage in a fair
01:01and balanced trading relationship I think the president will certainly do
01:05that.
