00:00Later in the program, we will share some of the experiences we had while watching the Ati-Atihan Festival.
00:07We have a national news report from Sheila Patoza of PIA Aklan.
00:13The sound of drum and lyre, sad-sad, or the dancing on the streets, and the shouting of Viva! to Señor Santo Niño.
00:22These are the usual sightings during the Ati-Atihan Festival in Calibo, Aklan.
00:27But behind the merrymaking, there are miracles like the Decade of Devotion to Señor Santo Niño de Calibo.
00:35When we were five years old, we were already dancing.
00:39At that time, maybe in the 1950s, our caro was the only one who processed.
00:48And the priest who accompanied the procession was behind our caro, and so was the band.
00:59Because dancing and singing is our form of prayer to the Santo Niño.
01:03And we would always shout, Viva! to Señor Santo Niño!
01:08According to Cecil, the Santo Niño de Calibo is said to perform miracles to unmarried couples.
01:16Dr. Francis Albert Lu is one of them.
01:19He is currently working in Singapore, returning to Calibo every year for this procession.
01:25My parents were married since they were together.
01:29And I was a part of the procession because they didn't know each other.
01:33So they danced, and then I came out.
01:36Devotees and relatives are requested to return the elements of prayer during the Ati-Atihan Festival.
01:43Because it is for their relatives who come home every year to perform their prayers.
01:49It is important to have a spiritual connection during this procession.
01:54From the Philippine Information Agency Aklan, Shella Patosa for Balitang Pambansa.
