00:00My name's Police Sergeant Chris Lindsay with the Devon & Cornwall Police Drone Team.
00:29I've been a Police Drone Pilot for about five years.
00:38We're here today at the Ballmasters Music Festival at Watergate Bay in Newquay.
00:44It's probably the single largest deployment for our team each year with about 60,000 people attending the event.
01:00The festival is spread over quite a large area.
01:03Our focus is on the Watergate Bay site, which is also where the camping is held.
01:09It's a very large festival, which does run into the night time hours.
01:15So it's really important for our capability to be good in both daylight and in light.
01:20So thermal capability, enhanced night vision capabilities are all really important to our operations.
01:27Our primary role is we are supporting the ground units with an air support capability.
01:33So we are able to give them the wide overview of the movements of crowds, the traffic management and also response to individual incidents across the footprint and beyond.
01:46The video feed that we're sending live via Teams is being utilised by the commanders of the event.
02:01It's also used by the event organisers to allow them to make better decisions as well.
02:08Having the police support us with crowd management and with the use of the drone, yeah, I think FERS is kind of an invaluable tool.
02:15We have our crowd safety managers, our health and safety team and also our control room commanders.
02:21They use it to help deploy resource.
02:23We move around stewarding, security, but also allows us to make sure that we see the problem evolving and allows us to get ahead of the problem.
02:32The H30T is a hybrid all weather payload with an integrated five module design.
02:37It features a 40 megapixel zoom camera with 34 times optical zoom and 400 times digital zoom.
02:43The H30T also has a 48 megapixel wide angle camera, a laser rangefinder extending to 3000 metres, a thermal sensor with 1280 by 1024 resolution and a near infrared auxiliary light.
02:59The IP rating of the aircraft means it can fly in strong winds and rain, which is very important for emergency service operations, particularly in coastal areas.
03:13The long lens, zoom function, thermal imaging and the laser rangefinder all add to the aircraft's versatility in a variety of situations, as does the aircraft's capability of taking other payloads such as a spotlight.
03:29Being able to see a large area of a footprint from a single location means the operators are able to direct ground units using that imagery.
03:44Looking to the future, there's no doubt I can see Drone in a Box, Drone as First Responder, DFR playing a massive role in emergency service operations.
03:57It's undoubtedly going to be a fantastic tool to help keep our public safe.
