00:00Hollywood actor Josh Gad recently shared in his book, In Gad With Trust, that he almost
00:06landed a role in legendary James Cameron's 2019 blockbuster, Avatar.
00:11The actor auditioned for the role of Jake Sully's best friend and translator for the
00:15Navy but ultimately didn't make the cut.
00:20According to the variety, in the book, Josh recalled auditioning for the sci-fi epic film
00:26while seeking a break from his Broadway run in the 25th annual Putnam County Spelling
00:31Bee.
00:32He explained,
00:33I put myself on tape and shortly thereafter got a call that Cameron wanted to fly me to
00:39Los Angeles for a final callback at his Lightstorm production offices.
00:43However, things took a surprising turn.
00:47I apparently did not get the role because, while James Cameron was said to be thrilled
00:52with my audition, when I was turned into a digital avatar, I supposedly looked like
00:57a tall, overweight smurf," Gad revealed.
01:01The role was eventually given to Joel David Moore, who portrayed Norm Spellman in the
01:06film.
01:07Despite missing out, Avatar went on to become the highest-grossing movie ever, the record
01:11which movie held for years.
