00:16Hence, the AFP and our national security officials are tying loose ends to keep the

00:21country's vital information and secrets under lock and key as we hear more from our Patrick de Azuz.

00:27Following the arrest of a Chinese national for alleged espionage, the armed forces of the

00:35Philippines stated their measures to safeguard national security remain strong and effective.

00:41The AFP has also tightened security in various military camps across the country.

00:47While we do not want to create unnecessary panic

00:50to our countrymen, our call is to be vigilant and help each other.

00:57Intelligence gatherings are in place. We saw this and we did not allow the scope of its activities to grow.

01:07According to the initial investigation by the NBI, the suspect, Denyuan King,

01:13who has been allegedly been in the Philippines for over five years, has visited several EDCA

01:18sites in Luzon, as well as power plants, NGCB substations, and the Malampaya gas field in Palawan.

01:26He was able to create a 3D mapping of the locations of structures even while outside

01:32the facilities using high-tech equipment that was seized from him, which enabled real-time

01:38transmission of information to China. Two Filipinos were also arrested alongside him.

01:44According to the AFP, they are investigating deeper motives in coordination with other

01:50government agencies. They are also looking into whether this incident is connected to

01:56the submersible drones recovered and the previous arrests of other foreign nationals involved in illegal activities.

02:04And start connecting the dots. There seems now to be a deliberate and calculated move

02:11to map out the country by a foreign power.

02:18We are facing this and we are taking appropriate action.

02:21This is not the first time an alleged spy has been arrested in the country.

02:25In May last year, a Chinese national was arrested in Makati for illegal possession

02:31of firearms and coercion, during which hacking gadgets were confiscated from him.

02:37National Security Advisor Eduardo Año called on lawmakers to prioritize amending the Espionage Act

02:43and passing the Countering Foreign Interference and Malign Influence Bill.

02:48He said this would help effectively address evolving security threats

02:53and impose stricter penalties on individuals involved in compromising national security.
