00:00Ladies and gentlemen, the President-elect of the United States, the Honorable Donald
00:06John Trump.
00:36Let's bring in our chief White House correspondent, Nancy Cordes.
00:50Nancy, we're just getting some breaking news about President Biden pardoning members of
00:54his own family.
00:55Why?
00:56That's right, Nora.
00:57With just 20 minutes or so left in his presidency, we've just gotten word from President Biden
01:03that he is pardoning his brothers, their wives, his sister, other family members.
01:10He says that he is doing this because baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak
01:16havoc on the lives of individuals.
01:19Obviously, the message he's sending is that he believes that the Biden family will be
01:23targeted after he leaves office by the incoming administration, and he wants to head that
01:29off.
01:30Remarkable.
01:31Ladies and gentlemen, please be seated.
01:33Absolutely remarkable, John.
01:35I can't think of blanket pardons for every member of your family.
01:38No, and it's a reminder that despite the pleasantries in the ceremony and both sides
01:43applauding for each other and all that looks normal, ringed around this ceremony is the
01:49politics in America right now, and Joe Biden is anticipating something and acting to head
01:57it off.
01:58The statement says there's no acknowledgment of any wrongdoing nor acceptance that it be
02:03misconstrued as a mission of guilt.
02:05So legally, you'd have to talk to a legal analyst about whether preemptive pardons for
02:11crimes not yet committed or no documentation of crimes committed or even charges brought
02:17stands.
