00:00I'm delighted to say that working with the Friends and with cross-party support
00:05we've done everything we can and we're able to keep the Lido open in the coming year.
00:10So that's for this year coming forward, how does that affect the budget?
00:15So it was a huge saving that you'll make?
00:17We were looking originally at £400,000, that's now down to about £120,000
00:24but given the fact that we don't have any other swimming facility in the centre of the city
00:30it's vital that we keep this open and we've done just that.
00:34And how does that affect long term, is that just for this year or is this going to be
00:38we're going to have these same conversations next year when the budget comes round?
00:41These conversations will always be ongoing but we're working with the Friends
00:46we're working with other stakeholders to look at a longer term solution.
00:50Suffice to say we're keeping it open in the short term.
00:53I'd like to really thank Dennis and all the councillors who've worked with the Friends of the Lido
00:57with City, Peterborough Swimming Club and everyone else who's shown an interest in this.
01:02The Lido is one of the jewels in the crown of the city and it's been brilliant to see
01:06that even though it's tough times for the council, people can pull together
01:10and we've now got a solution in place which is to keep this Lido open
01:13so we can work on a sustainable future so everyone else gets to enjoy it for generations to come.
01:18It now is down to the people of Peterborough to use it
01:22this is a wonderful asset, we're looking at ways where we can generate additional income
01:27we have a well-known television series that will be filming some of their season 6 here
01:33but it is down to people using this wonderful, wonderful asset.
