00:00Gazans gathered in front of Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Bala on Sunday, celebrating the
00:08delayed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas coming into effect.
00:13The ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip took effect at 11.15 a.m. on Sunday after a nearly
00:19three-hour delay, pausing a 15-month-old war that has brought devastation and seismic political
00:25change to the Middle East.
00:27Israel blamed Hamas for the delay after Hamas failed to provide a list naming the first
00:32three hostages to be released under the deal.
00:35Hamas attributed the delay to technical reasons, without specifying what those were.
00:41The highly anticipated ceasefire deal could help usher in an end to the Gaza war, which
00:46began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people.
00:55Israel's response has reduced much of Gaza to rubble and killed nearly 47,000 Palestinians,
01:01according to Gaza-based health authorities.
