00:00I saw somewhere, you know, obviously,
00:02people have their different career paths,
00:04usually, to getting into combat sports,
00:07but one that's probably a little bit different
00:09for most Canadians, you know, we've seen a lot of,
00:11I've talked to a bunch of the guys
00:13from the Prospect Series card before,
00:14and of course you have the former hockey players,
00:16but former running back, you played football,
00:19you're a running back, how did you go from,
00:21first of all, how did you get into, you know,
00:23obviously football not as big for Canada,
00:25they had the CFL, but, you know,
00:26not exactly the sport of choice,
00:28usually it's hockey, lacrosse, I feel like,
00:30how did you become a football running back,
00:32and how did you go from that
00:33to being a bare knuckle fighter?
00:36Yeah, I started playing football in high school,
00:39actually my girlfriend at the time influenced me to play,
00:41I didn't wanna play, I was more of a basketball player,
00:44but as soon as I stepped on the football field,
00:46I felt super comfortable, and it was like,
00:48this is my sport, I never did any contact sports
00:51before that, minus a little bit of wrestling,
00:54and then, yeah, I just, I love the aggression of football,
00:58the teamwork, and the training,
01:01and it kinda led me to my natural progression of,
01:05you know, what do I do in the off season,
01:07so I started wrestling a bit here and there,
01:08then that brought me into MMA, and then boxing,
01:11and then back into bare knuckle.
01:14Of course, basketball, how could I not mention that,
01:17getting bigger and bigger in Canada as well,
01:18great, that team is getting more and more stacked,
01:20with guys like SJ and RJ Barrett,
01:22some great players up there in Canada as well,
01:24and it keeps growing as well, but now, of course,
01:26combat sports, a big part of Canadian lore,
01:29plenty of fights, not only in hockey,
01:31but plenty of great boxers,
01:33especially coming out of Montreal,
01:34where you're training, great MMA fighters, of course,
01:36some from the gym that you train at,
01:38and work at now in TriStar,
01:40what has been your path, go from football,
01:42to boxing, to fighting, and now to, you know,
01:45bare knuckle fighting as well,
01:47what has that journey been like for you,
01:48that transition to being, you know,
01:50former MMA, former fighter in general,
01:52to taking off those gloves
01:53and trying things out in bare knuckle?
01:55I mean, I was very fortunate,
01:56when I first moved to Montreal from Ontario,
02:00that's when kind of George was making his,
02:03you know, GSP, making his big time run,
02:05so being at TriStar, I was around all the big names,
02:08looking back on it now, even,
02:10that's when the UFC had their
02:12Ultimate Fighter Canada version,
02:14so you had lots of good guys training with,
02:16and lots of knowledge,
02:19and then transitioning over, you know,
02:21I wasn't the best MMA fighter,
02:23I started quite late, so learning how to box,
02:26and do Muay Thai, and Jiu Jitsu, and wrestling,
02:28I always felt kind of lost,
02:30so I always had a really brash style of boxing,
02:34where people would complain, you can't do that,
02:36you can't grapple, you can't do this,
02:38I'm like, I just love to fight,
02:39so the natural progression to go from boxing,
02:42and now I'm actually able to use those clinches,
02:45you know, that kind of Greco-Roman wrestling style,
02:47in bare knuckle, and then having no gloves on,
02:51makes the damage in the atmosphere so much more exciting.
