McDonald's has recently started serving breakfast all day, which has gone over quite well with people who like hash browns and eggs in the afternoon or late at night. However, there are other people who don't even like breakfast food at breakfast, and they're wondering why the fast food chain can't do the reverse. If they can serve Egg McMuffins at night, they can serve burgers in the morning, right? Sadly, the answer seems to be no, and there are a few factors at play. Let's take a look at the real reason why McDonald's won't serve burgers in the morning.

00:00Cravings know no boundaries, and sometimes you just want a Big Mac for breakfast.
00:05You're an adult, after all, and adulting is hard.
00:07There's no reason you shouldn't be able to have a Big Mac first thing in the morning.
00:11So why on earth would McDonald's deny you?
00:14I would like to buy a hamburger.
00:16I would like to buy a hamburger.
00:17I would like to buy a hamburger.
00:20I would like to buy a hamburger.
00:21I would like to buy a hamburger.
00:22I would like to buy a hamburger.
00:23It turns out there are two reasons, the official one, and then the real one.
00:28Since there's the official reason, McDonald's spokespeople told The Wall Street Journal
00:31that it's simple.
00:32People don't really want it.
00:34The demand isn't strong enough to warrant running the burger grill in the morning.
00:37Hardcore morning burger fans clearly disagree, though.
00:40So what's the real reason McDonald's doesn't serve burgers in the morning?
00:44Well, according to a number of Reddit posters who claim to be current or former McDonald's
00:48employees, it has to do with how the kitchen works.
00:51It turns out there's a big transition between the breakfast menu and the lunch menu.
00:55Some of it is for health and safety reasons, as there's a process for handling and serving
00:59meat that needs to be followed.
01:01But there's also the issue of cooking different types of food on the same grill, with one
01:04poster saying,
01:05"...I'm cringing at the thought of biting into some grilled chicken with McDonald's
01:09sausage grease in it."
01:11And over on Quora, a McDonald's employee pointed out that eggs and burgers are cooked on the
01:15same equipment at very different temperatures, and there's no way to easily switch between
01:19the two.
01:20Try to cook them at the same temperature and you'll get undercooked burgers and overcooked
01:23eggs, and nobody wants either of those things.
01:25Of course, burger conspiracy theorists point out the big flaw in these arguments all-day
01:30breakfast.
01:31But before you do your gotcha dance, there are a couple issues with that argument.
01:35First, according to Reader's Digest, all-day breakfast has caused longer wait times in
01:39the afternoon, which is fine for the lazy loafers who eat at McDonald's for their midday
01:43snack, but longer lines caused by serving both meal options could be a major issue for
01:48commuters trying to beat the early morning rush to work.
01:50That's one of the reasons they held off on all-day breakfast to begin with.
01:54Sorry, sir, we stopped serving breakfast.
01:55What are you talking about?
01:56We're four seconds late!
01:57No, you're 30 minutes and four seconds late.
01:59We stopped serving breakfast at 10.30.
02:01Aw, horseshit!
02:03The other thing is, as Slate points out, McDonald's isn't actually offering their entire breakfast
02:07menu all day.
02:08It varies by region and by store, and in some locations, there are just some options you
02:13can't get.
02:14Many aren't serving hash browns all day, for example, just because it's logistically impossible.
02:18There just isn't enough room in the fryers to make hash browns and fries, so cuts are
02:22necessary.
02:23Making fries in the morning wouldn't really be feasible anyway, because fries are made
02:27in bulk batches.
02:28As one Reddit philosopher pointed out,
02:30"...they have to put on an entire basket full.
02:32So I sort of understand if in the morning they don't want to make all these fries for
02:36the one guy asking for them."
02:38Still, all-night workers and early morning snackers shouldn't lose hope.
02:42After all, just a few short years ago, fans were bemoaning the fact that all-day breakfast
02:46wasn't a thing.
02:47It just speaks to the power of bemoaning that now, all-day breakfast exists.
02:52So maybe all-day burgers could follow suit at some point in the future.
02:55Though hopefully all-day burger advocates won't be quite so… militant with their demands.
03:00"...I don't want lunch.
03:03I want breakfast."
03:04"...Yeah, well, hey.
03:06I'm really sorry."
03:07"...Yeah.
03:08Well, hey, I'm really sorry, too."
03:10And here's a bit of news that will give burger lovers even more to feel good about.
03:13McDonald's does, in fact, serve both burgers and breakfast alongside each other during
03:17all hours of the day in one country, Australia.
03:21In 2018, News.com.au confirmed that the plan, which had started out as a trial in just a
03:26few areas of the country, was going nationwide, with Big Macs, cheeseburgers, McNuggets, Quarter
03:30Pounders, and fries making the jump to the breakfast menu.
03:34Does that mean there's potential for it to happen in the U.S., too?
03:37As noted burger enthusiast Kevin Garnett famously said,
03:41Anything's possible.
03:43ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE!
