00:00My name is Sarah Bennett and I'm Head Teacher at Crookhorn College.
00:04Tell me about your recent Ofsted report and what you think of the result.
00:11So we were Ofsteded in mid-November and a great time of year to be Ofsteded,
00:16obviously the weather's always on your side, but it was a really positive experience. The
00:21inspectors came and I think they really got an understanding for what we aim to achieve here
00:27every day at Crookhorn. They were highly impressed with the quality of teaching and
00:33learning which was fantastic and the progress that all students make so that covers all
00:38attainment ranges and that's something that we've very specifically been working on over
00:42the last few years. They felt that the behaviour was exemplary and really demonstrated respect to
00:49each other and to staff and staff back to the students so that relational practice again that
00:54we've been working on really shone through in the report as did the amount of time and effort
01:00that we put into ensuring that the students are well-rounded so their personal development which
01:05is so important and the fact that they've got a clear plan for how they're going to progress post-16.
01:10Tell me what makes Crookhorn College special?
01:17The very first line of the Ofsted report says this is an inclusive school and I think that
01:22that's what makes us so special. We aim to include all students and we aim to make the best possible
01:29progress with all students so there's strong academic rigour but there's inclusion and one
01:35thing we fundamentally believe is the fact that if a child feels included then they'll feel motivated.
01:41If they feel that they're excluded then they're not motivated so we aim for the inclusion,
01:47for the motivation and we we strive to do that in many many different ways and as a result
01:53Crookhorn's an amazing place. So tell me about any future plans for the for the college?
01:59Okay so we've got a big plan coming up. Our resource provision opens in September 2025 to
02:04support students with EHCPs for ASD which is the autistic spectrum so we're looking forward
02:12to that. We have one of our blocks is being reclad this year and we're taking the opportunity
02:18to remodel the inside of that so that the classrooms are better and a more conducive
02:24learning atmosphere so that's really exciting as well and we're continuing to develop our
02:30student engagement with the local community so one of the big things we've got going on is
02:35creating our engineering academy which we're really excited about which takes students on
02:40an engineering journey right from when they join us in year seven to when they leave us in year 11
02:44either to go on to apprenticeships in engineering or go on to study it further at college
02:49so that's that's been something we've been working on this year and we're really hoping
02:52to make a big leap with it next year. We've had fantastic support from employers on this.
