00:00No matter how cheesy that sounds, I love this music. I love this artist.
00:03And then I stumbled into this acting stuff. That's my boss, you know?
00:06So that's really nice to hear.
00:09You nailed this. Like, phenomenal job, both of you.
00:12Thank you. Thank you.
00:13They really put you to work on this one, Timothy.
00:15Yeah.
00:15So many skills to learn. Which did you find the toughest to master, would you say?
00:19I don't know. They were all equally challenging and also equally enjoyable because I had the
00:24five years to work on this. So the movie put me to work and I put me to work and I just...
00:28But it was a labor of love, you know? No matter how cheesy that sounds, I love this music.
00:33I love this artist. I love working with Jim, the whole cast. So
00:36it was really, truly a very enjoyable experience.
00:39Time well spent.
00:40Yeah, exactly.
00:40Time well spent.
00:42James, for you, was there a moment during the filming or when you first started where
00:46you looked at Timothy on set and you were like,
00:48I've just made the right decision. Like, he is so perfect.
00:50Well, I knew that way earlier. I wasn't debating whether I had partnered up with the right guy.
00:57But I was... The height of the ceiling was the part that was so... Like, how far he would go.
01:05And very quickly, in the very first week of shooting, it was really clear to me
01:10that he was... If I could just keep clearing space for him, he would keep filling it.
01:15It's nice hearing all...
01:16Yeah, it's amazing.
01:17There's been so many amazing things said about you.
01:19No, but this is my boss.
01:22Yeah.
01:22So that's really nice to hear.
01:25It's always nice to hear.
01:26Would you say in the film how excited Bob is to meet Woody right at the very start?
01:32And I was curious for both of you, actually.
01:33Has there been someone who you've been particularly excited to meet in your career?
01:37Like, the one person you would go to any length to have met?
01:41Barbara Walters.
01:42That's an interesting answer.
01:43Yeah. I would be... I was... Well, first of all, Dylan, I was really interested to meet.
01:51That just kind of happened. But there was a moment in my life as a young man where, like,
01:59all I wanted to do was be Steven Spielberg as a 13, 14-year-old young man
02:03watching those movies on Spool. And the chance to actually meet him and make a movie with him,
02:10separate from the whole movie experience, was just a kind of closing of the circle
02:15in which you get to collaborate with someone who was your...
02:20Who you just read about in magazines and made you want to be a movie director, you know?
02:24Do you have the same experience with Barbara?
02:28The exact same. And I stumbled into this acting stuff. But the dream is to...
02:33To be an interview journalist for...
02:35Interview journalist.
02:36Barbara Walters?
02:37Legendary broadcast one-of-one singular...
02:41Okay, okay. Whoa, I am so debased.
02:43Generation-defining process of inquisition.
02:47Yeah, I've got nothing.
02:48Who systematically makes everyone cry.
02:51Who has the magical... She's like the Stanislavski of interviews. Everyone is reduced to raw emotion.
02:58And also, Bob was very excited to get the letter from Johnny Cash as well in here.
03:04I imagine people don't send letters that much anymore, but have you ever received
03:07praise or, like, an email or something from someone who you've really looked up to that
03:12meant a lot to you?
03:13Barbara Walters.
03:15Barbara Walters.
03:16It's just like for every...
03:17She was deeply moved by this movie I did, One and Two, really early on.
03:21And went out of her way to reach out to me.
03:24It is a beautiful thing.
03:25It is a beautiful thing when people reach out.
03:28One of the first times I remembered is I was...
03:30I just finished Girl Interrupted and I was shopping in Los Angeles.
03:34And I saw Michael Mann.
03:36And I introduced myself to him.
03:38And he said, Oh my God, we just saw Girl Interrupted.
03:41You have to come out with me.
03:41And he told the clerk to keep my groceries.
03:43And he took me out to the parking lot where his daughters were in the car.
03:46And he introduced me to his whole family.
03:48And he was...
03:49And it was just this moment where, you know, you just...
03:52Someone you think who is a fabulous, incredible director just takes the moment to say,
03:57You're awesome.
03:59Or you did something well.
04:00And that kind of affirmation is...
04:04No, it's everything.
04:06And it still is, to be honest.
04:08When we do things like this, the notes from peers who see it is everything.
04:13Because they know what we do.
04:17We all know what we do and how hard it is to get it through the system,
04:21to get it, to get the work to the screen, to get it on the screen.
04:24And so it really means something when you hear it from your peers or even your superiors.
04:31Well, I am not any of those.
04:33But I will say that you've done a phenomenal job.
04:36Thank you so much.
04:38People are going to love it.
04:39You could not have done a better job.
04:40I appreciate it.
04:40I appreciate it.
04:41I appreciate it.
04:42Nice to see you.
04:43Nice to see you.
04:44Merry Christmas.
