00:00All right, what did Harry and Meghan do this time? Turns out, they've found a way to insert
00:05themselves into the spotlight during the ongoing wildfire catastrophe in Los Angeles, and some
00:10people are not too happy about it.
00:11A few days ago, Fox 11 spotted the couple speaking to volunteers at the site of the
00:16Eaton fire alongside chef Jose Andres, who runs World Central Kitchen. Also present was
00:21Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo. It didn't take long for their critics to catch wind of it
00:26and offer up their opinions on why the couple decided to show their faces.
00:30One such critic was former Family Ties actor Justine Bateman, who took to Ex to voice her
00:35displeasure with the video footage of Harry and Meghan touring the disaster zone. The
00:39former sitcom star wrote,
00:40"...Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive photo-op
00:45they achieved. They are touring the damage. Are they politicians now? They don't live
00:50here. They are tourists. Disaster tourists."
00:52Many took to the comments to agree with her. One user wrote,
00:56Thank you, Justine. You are absolutely correct. It's not the first time Meghan has used a
00:59tragedy for her photo-op. She went to Uvalde and used a shrine for dead children, too.
01:05Another user wrote,
01:06You aren't lying. It's not their neighborhood. They wouldn't be caught dead in Pasadena normally.
01:10Two hours from Montecito, and the per capita income isn't high enough.
01:14However, there were plenty who came to Harry and Meghan's defense. One shamed Bateman by
01:19writing,
01:20Really? All I see you doing is bashing the mayor and the governor and being an ex-keyboard
01:24warrior. They were out there helping. You? Not so much."
01:27Another posted a meme that read,
01:29When your hatred for Harry and Meghan overrides your compassion for fire victims, congratulations.
01:34You officially lost your humanity.
01:36Online opinions aside, how did people on-site react to Harry and Meghan stopping by? When
01:41asked how he felt about them showing up to witness the damage, Mayor Gordo said,
01:45Great people, great personalities, and great heart for them to come out here.
01:52Whether or not he actually feels this way is up for debate, but it ultimately doesn't
01:56matter. Nor does it matter what Harry and Meghan's intentions were when they decided
02:00to show their faces at the site of the Eaton fire. The truth is that Harry and Meghan will
02:04face backlash whether they help or not, and the people of Los Angeles need every pair
02:09of eyes possible on their city as the fires continue to rage. So what if that attention
02:13came about from their own personal agendas and the toxic online discourse that ensued?
02:18The end result matters more in a time like this, right? Anything helps.
02:22In the spirit of helping, it's also worth noting that Harry and Meghan have opened up
02:26their still-standing $14 million Montecito home to friends who have had to evacuate.
02:31CNN also reports that they have reportedly donated, quote, clothing, children's items,
02:35and other essential supplies to families in need, in addition to posting a list of resources
02:40on their website.
