00:00Since I started, and in this area, especially in the school, we've had a real big appetite
00:11for girls rugby.
00:12Feet on your feet, on your feet, on your feet, yes, great tackle, well done, great tackle.
00:18We're a small school, so there's only like 50 girls in that sort of age group, and you
00:23know we've had 30 plus different girls out training, so there's a real appetite for it
00:28in the area.
00:30We ran our first development festival back at the end of September, where we took 18
00:35girls who, the majority of them had never played, the majority of them had never done
00:39any contact, and last week I think the statistics were, I think there was eight of them who've
00:46now gone on to join the Valley Ferns Hub.
00:48I didn't play rugby for like a year, because obviously I had to go from mixed to girls
00:53rugby, so when I heard there was a girls team up by me, I was very excited, so Luke
01:00helped me get more involved into the team.
01:05Yeah nice, well done, well done.
01:07I think it's really, really promising, you know percentage wise, we're looking at probably
01:1360, 60 plus percent of girls in that age group have taken up rugby, and they wouldn't have
01:19had the opportunity if it wasn't for the festivals and the extra support that the school
01:24has by having a hub officer, it's about the hubs, and getting a hold of these girls, just
01:30getting them in the community and actually really enjoying their rugby.
01:35Yeah so we're here down in Abercrave today, as the hub officer in the area.
01:41We come in, provide a little bit of provision for the volunteers out, we've got Kelly Hughes
01:47in charge of the under nines, we've got the minis and juniors.
01:51So part of the hub programme as well, we run continuous coach development sessions, the
02:00volunteers in the area really care and really want to push on their coach development, and
02:04Kelly herself was part of that.
02:06It was a really good course, they could explain everything really well, and you showed his
02:12expertise and it's really useful for coaches like myself who have just stepped in because
02:17my child is playing and we didn't have coaches, so I've played before but I haven't coached
02:23rugby so sessions like that were really useful and we went through loads of really good drills
02:28and practices and we've used nearly all of them and we're going to use them tonight again
02:32now and they're a real big help and I'll be going back to them for more help in the future.
