00:00And his ambitious plans for the future,
00:03including urban redevelopment in Mumbai North,
00:06demonstrate his commitment to building
00:08a sustainable and prosperous nation.
00:11Coming from Maharashtra, we are very grateful to you, sir,
00:14for that.
00:15Apart from his remarkable professional achievements,
00:18sir has consistently prioritized social welfare,
00:22supporting numerous NGOs which are dedicated to providing
00:27education for the underprivileged
00:29and empowering the physically disabled.
00:32His deep commitment to societal betterment
00:35is further inspired by his wife, his better half,
00:39who is wholeheartedly devoted to social causes.
00:42A big round of applause for his wife also.
00:44Thank you so much.
00:46Sir's efforts have garnered international recognition,
00:50and he was honored by being named among the world's 100
00:53most influential people in climate policy in 2019,
00:57for which we are eternally grateful to you.
01:00Let us now hear from the man of the moment,
01:02the Honorable Union Minister of Commerce and Industry,
01:05Shibhush Goyalji.
01:09Thank you very much, Justice Kumar,
01:12for giving me this opportunity.
01:15I really did not know that we will
01:19be honoring such illustrious people when you first
01:22gave me the call, and I had spontaneously accepted.
01:26But you have given me this honor,
01:29and you have made me proud that I could come here and be
01:32a part of this function.
01:33I'd like to thank you for giving me this opportunity.
01:37Mr. Babu, Sanjay Kumarji, all the awardees today,
01:42all the distinguished guests and friends from the media.
01:48Indeed, a wonderful initiative by DMICS and WCDM
01:56for recognizing and awarding the hidden jewels in our crown.
02:04We have all gone through disasters.
02:06We have all gone through disasters.
02:10But to fight against it, to fight against it,
02:17and to preempt it in today's context,
02:22this has been a great achievement for the country.
02:26And I believe that the way the central government,
02:31Rajya Sarkar, Sabhi Adhikari, our armed forces,
02:36Sabhi ne milke is pura shetra ko nahi soch ke dhanse mein
02:43dala hai, yeh shayad hum 10, 15, 20 saal pehle soch bhi
02:47nahi sakte.
02:49There was a time when large number of casualties
02:53were assumed to be a natural consequence of a disaster.
02:59If a few hundred people or a few thousand people
03:02even lost their lives or were significantly
03:07impacted economically, probably the rest of the nation
03:11would not even bat an eyelid.
03:14But the focus that we have seen in disaster resilience,
03:20in disaster-ready infrastructure,
03:23in creating an ecosystem which recognizes
03:28that this is an important element that we
03:31have to look after, preempting and predicting
03:35what is going to happen, this entire journey
03:40is truly fascinating.
03:42I mean, today, I don't think in the worst
03:45of cyclones in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh,
03:48and the entire eastern belt, we see the kind of casualties
03:52we used to hear of 10, 15, 20 years ago.
03:56It's largely because our meteorological department
03:59is doing a fabulous job.
04:01They come out with, and only yesterday,
04:04we celebrated their annual day.
04:06The Honorable Prime Minister was also there.
04:09The 150th Foundation Day of IMD was celebrated yesterday.
04:13It's truly a matter of pride for us
04:16that they have evolved into one of the most modern organizations
04:20and are able to actually map, and we see it on television,
04:24map even every small movement of natural disasters.
04:29They're able to give us forewarnings of earthquakes.
04:32They're able to tell us where we are going to see floods or rain
04:37effectors.
04:38It's truly a whole-of-the-government approach,
04:42which is evident also in the wide span of awardees
04:46that we have awarded today.
04:48And I think Mr. Babu, Mr. Kumar, by awarding
04:53different aspects of disaster management and resilience
04:56today, you have not only recognized
04:59their contributions.
