00:00Today we are doing a gallery talk on the Coyne Gallery.
00:06Professor Sushmita Basu Majumdar, Head of the Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture, University of Kolkata.
00:13We have invited her to speak.
00:17We have started a lecture series called Tuesday Tales of the Indian Magical House.
00:24And this will be held in a gallery.
00:26As you know, the Indian Magical House is the oldest museum of Asia.
00:32We have around 1,00,000 items.
00:36And these items are in three sections.
00:40Art, Archaeology and Anthropology.
00:43Apart from these, we have a collection of geology, zoology and botany.
00:50But the administrative control of these objects, geology, zoology and botany, lies with the respective surveyors.
01:00We have started this gallery in a series.
01:07Each item has a history.
01:11The items cannot speak for themselves.
01:14But they have a lot to say to ordinary people.
01:18That is why we have started this Indian Magical House.
01:23To have a gallery talk.
01:26So every Tuesday, we have a series of lectures in this gallery.
01:33And here we have an audience.
01:36An ordinary person can see this.
01:38It is open to all.
01:40And every day, 7,000-8,000 people come here.
01:47Especially, the families of schools and colleges are eager to listen to our gallery talk.
01:55When you go to school, college or university,
02:02but when you come face to face,
02:04when you see the object with your eyes,
02:09there is a difference.
02:12And that object is talking to you and interacting with you.
02:17That is why the Indian Magical House exists.
