00:00There are government guidelines for schools and nurseries about when children should and
00:05shouldn't attend school if they have an illness. The NHS also offers advice on whether or not
00:12your child should stay home or go to school. If your child has a cough or the common cold,
00:19the NHS recommend that it is safe for them to go to school as long as they know about
00:24practising basic hygiene, including disposing of any used tissues. However, the NHS state
00:30that if your child has a high temperature, then it is best to keep them off school until
00:35the high temperature has come down. If your child tests positive for Covid, the NHS recommends
00:42that they avoid contact with people for three days after their first positive test. Symptoms
00:49of Covid can include a new continuous cough, a high temperature and a change or loss to your
00:55taste and sense of smell. Norovirus is highly contagious, meaning it can easily spread in a
01:02school or nursery setting. Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea or abdominal pain.
01:08The NHS advises that if your child develops any of the symptoms of norovirus, that you keep them
01:14off school for up to 48 hours after they have developed symptoms. This is because even after
01:19symptoms have passed, for 48 hours they can still be infectious. Norovirus is highly contagious and
01:25the best way to prevent catching norovirus is washing your hands with warm soapy water, as
01:30alcohol sanitiser gels do not kill norovirus. RSV infections are very common among children.
01:40Symptoms can include coughing, a sore throat, a headache and a high temperature. It's recommended
01:46that you do not send your child to school or nursery if they are unwell or have a high
01:50temperature. It's advised that you would wait at least 24 hours until their symptoms have improved
01:56and their high temperature has passed before you send them back into education. You can find out
