Taking an early lead set the tone for the Dallas Mavericks as they faced the Denver Nuggets in game one of their doubleheader. Despite a strong start, the Mavericks fell short, ending their two-game winning streak with a 112-101 loss.

The night featured a historic moment as Klay Thompson notched his 16,000th career point, shooting a perfect 100% from beyond the arc in the second quarter. Dallas managed to build momentum early, excelling in transition and capitalizing on Denver’s mistakes, scoring 10 of their 32 points off turnovers.

Defensively, the Mavericks focused on containing three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. Their efforts paid off in the first quarter, limiting him to just seven points. Though Jokic finished with a solid double-double, recording 19 points, 18 rebounds, and 9 assists, the Mavericks successfully held him below his average of 31.6 points per game.

However, the fourth quarter proved to be the turning point. As Mavericks Head Coach Jason Kidd explained in the postgame press conference, “In the fourth quarter, we just couldn’t find the energy to make shots or get stops.”

Thompson ended the game with 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists, showcasing his efficiency and experience. Despite the loss, the Mavericks showed flashes of brilliance that they’ll aim to carry into their rematch against Denver on Tuesday night at home before heading back on the road.

00:00Taking the lead early set the tone for the Dallas Mavericks as they took on the
00:09Denver Nuggets at home for the first game of their doubleheader.
00:12Unfortunately they fell short and broke their two-game winning streak with a
00:15final score of 112 to 101. Klay Thompson hit his 16,000th career point as he was
00:21shooting a hundred percent from the three-point line in the first quarter.
00:24That momentum continued for Dallas. They were able to capitalize off of the
00:27turnovers from the Denver Nuggets scoring 10 of their 32 points in the
00:31first quarter off of Denver's mistakes. Defensively the main goal for the Mavs
00:35was to stop Nikola Jokic from scoring his normal average of 31.6 points per
00:40game and unfortunately he did have a double-double but they were able to hold
00:45him to just seven points in the first quarter. The fourth quarter slipped away
00:48for the Dallas Mavericks as head coach Jason Kidd mentioned in the postgame
00:51presser that in the fourth quarter they just couldn't find the energy to make
00:55shots and get stops. I think we got a little tired which is expected when you
01:01put out that type of energy on both ends offense and defense but they had the big
01:07fourth just like we had the big first and so they pulled away there in that
01:12fourth quarter. Klay Thompson finished with 25 points six rebounds and two
01:16assists. Nikola Jokic finished with 19 points 18 rebounds and nine assists. The
01:22Dallas Mavericks will stay home to take on the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night.
