00:00How did Gwen Stefani go from the punk princess of the early aughts
00:03to promoting a prayer app for the Catholic Church?
00:06Gwen Stefani has been a superstar for decades, thanks to her trend-setting fashions
00:11and countless hit records, with her ska band No Doubt, and later as a solo artist.
00:16But lately, Stefani's longtime fans are finding her harder to recognize.
00:20That's because in recent years, her appearance, her music, and her entire persona
00:25have gone through some dramatic public changes.
00:28Stefani shocked many when, in late 2024,
00:31she marketed a Catholic prayer app called Hallowed.
00:34In the weeks leading up to her Hallowed ad launch,
00:36the songstress began to display religious imagery
00:38on her social media accounts to her 18 million followers,
00:42which surprised many of her fans, who had no idea Stefani was religious.
00:46Christmas season has always been my favorite time of the year.
00:49It's the season that we get to celebrate the birth of our Lord.
00:52So what's the deal?
00:54Gwen rose to fame as the lead singer of No Doubt,
00:57a band she started with friends in Southern California back in the early 1990s.
01:02Gwen quickly became an alternative fashion it girl for her platinum blonde hair,
01:07facial decorations, and unique style of dress.
01:10No Doubt was a huge success, and helped Stefani break out as a solo star in the early 2000s.
01:17She pushed her music and style even further as a solo artist,
01:20making her one of the biggest pop stars of the decade.
01:23But in 2015, Gwen filed for divorce from her 90s rocker husband Gavin Rossdale
01:29after 13 years of marriage and three children together.
01:32While she spoke to the press about how painful her breakup was,
01:35nobody could have anticipated Stefani's next move.
01:39Just months after her divorce announcement, Stefani went public with her new man,
01:43Blake Shelton, a country artist who co-starred with Stefani on the TV show The Voice.
01:49Over the next decade, Stefani's persona shifted from rock and roll front woman
01:54to wholesome Southern mom and wife after marrying Shelton in 2021.
01:58Now residing in an Oklahoma ranch, Stefani's music has transformed,
02:03releasing her first country album, Bouquet.
02:06In 2024, after a string of country singles, she recorded with her husband Blake.
02:12She also looks, well, different.
02:14Along with her tamed down fashions, Stefani's been speculated to be a major fan
02:19of facial filler, which may account for the change in her appearance.
02:22But it's Gwen's latest venture that left her fans totally perplexed.
02:26Stefani became the face of Hallow, a scripture app aimed at Catholics,
02:31for an advent campaign in December 2024,
02:34even recording Bible readings and an original Christmas song for the app.
02:38Join me and millions of other Christians around the world as we celebrate together
02:42the truth that God so loved the world that he gave us his only son.
02:47So is Stefani's new era as a Christian musician,
02:51a natural progression or a money grabbing scam?
02:54It depends on who you ask.
02:55But for Gwen, who admitted that she forgot many of her No Doubt song lyrics
03:00and needed to relearn them ahead of the band's 2024 reunion show at Coachella,
03:05she doesn't seem to miss the old days as much as her fans do.
