00:00Breast cancer is one of the most common diseases in women in the country.
00:06It continues to increase, so we will continue to expand our knowledge about breast cancer.
00:13To better understand the causes and effects of this disease,
00:18we will interview Dr. Frances Victoria Que, an oncologist.
00:23Doctor, good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:28Hi, good morning. Thank you for inviting me.
00:31Doctor, thank you so much for being with us this morning.
00:34This is Prof. Fie, together with Meiji.
00:36We often hear about breast cancer, but how serious or alarming is this disease?
00:42And how can it affect a person?
00:47Breast cancer is serious.
00:49But if we find out early on that it is curable and can be cured,
00:55but if we are not careful, it can spread to the whole body and cause death.
01:05So, it is serious.
01:07And if we find out that it is related to the breast,
01:10we need to check it immediately and get it treated.
01:17Doc, what are the common symptoms of breast cancer
01:21that can be easily noticed or observed by our RSPs, especially women?
01:29Of course, the most common or common symptoms we see is a bulge in the breast.
01:35Other than this, there are other symptoms,
01:40such as a change in the shape or size of the breast,
01:44swelling, swelling, redness, or swelling, or irritation,
01:50and there will be pimples on the breast.
01:54There can also be discharge or blood coming out of the breast or nipple,
02:01or a stretch in the breast or nipple.
02:05There can also be pain in the breast.
02:13Alright, Doc, how can we detect breast cancer early?
02:16We call it breast self-examination or BSE.
02:20What is the right way to do this before consulting a doctor
02:24if they are worried that they have breast cancer?
02:28It is important that we have breast awareness.
02:32All women, when reaching the age of 18 years old,
02:38should know what is normal and what is not.
02:42So, if that is the case…
02:48Doc, go ahead, Doc.
02:51…the signs of breast cancer, we need to know that it is important to be checked.
02:58For self-breast examination, this is an examination of our own breasts.
03:05This can be done while lying down or standing,
03:08with our arms raised or standing.
03:11Here, we look at the whole breast.
03:15We check if it is swollen.
03:17We also look at the sides, if there are pimples or redness here,
03:22or if there is discharge or blood coming out of the nipple.
03:26But more importantly, in breast self-examination,
03:30we know that breast screening is important.
03:36This is an annual mammogram for all women starting at the age of 40 years old.
03:48Doc, aside from what you said about how we can avoid self-examination,
03:54are there other ways to avoid it?
03:57What are the possible treatment options for this?
04:01And how likely is it for a person to recover from breast cancer?
04:10It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid cancer.
04:17So, our diet, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising,
04:23not smoking, limiting or staying away from alcohol.
04:29Aside from this, breast cancer screening is important.
04:33Breast cancer awareness, which we mentioned earlier,
04:37self-breast examination,
04:39and making an annual mammogram for those who are above the age of 40
04:45for those who have average risks.
04:47And for those who have a family history of cancer,
04:52now we have genetic counseling and testing
04:57to find out the actual risk of breast cancer,
05:02if it is really curable or not.
05:05And this is good because breast cancer screening starts early
05:10and we can make measures to reduce the risk of cancer.
05:17Is there a high possibility of recovering from breast cancer?
05:22Yes, as long as it starts early.
05:28Great, this discussion is very important, especially this month,
05:30which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
05:32Thank you very much, Dr. Frances Victoria Que,
05:35for sharing with us about breast cancer.
