00:00I worked really hard at it, and I think if I remember correctly, I did it in a couple takes.
00:05I mean, it didn't look like CGI, so.
00:07No, it's not CGI.
00:08You must have gotten it, right?
00:09It is not CGI.
00:10James E. Wu, FBI.
00:12Bonafide joint multi-service response.
00:15Really looking forward to the commemorative t-shirt.
00:17So I will start with kind of a blunt question, which is, was Darcy Lewis blipped?
00:23That was also a question I had.
00:25That was talked about at length with the writers.
00:29I don't think she was blipped.
00:31So I would like a flashback to see Darcy not blipped.
00:37That would be very funny.
00:38But we decided she wasn't blipped.
00:40Was Jimmy Wu blipped?
00:43Well, you know, I did ask that question during the making of this,
00:48and I've gotten various answers, theories.
00:52I don't know the answer for sure, but my theory is that he wasn't.
00:57He wasn't, because he needed that time to learn that card trick, you know?
01:02Someone must really miss you back at Quantico.
01:04No, sir.
01:05Softball season's over, sir.
01:07I actually was going to specifically ask about the card flip,
01:09because it is a great callback that is just like within his intro.
01:13How'd you do it, Scott?
01:15Do what?
01:17The card trick.
01:18I'm curious, though, was that something that you already knew how to do,
01:21or was that something that maybe took a few takes?
01:23No, I didn't know how to do it,
01:25but I learned it maybe a couple days before,
01:27and worked really hard on it, because I didn't want to screw it up.
01:30I didn't want to have to do like 40 takes of that one thing.
01:35Far.
01:36So I worked really hard at it,
01:38and I think if I remember correctly, I did it in a couple takes.
01:42Nice.
01:43It looks great in the show.
01:44I mean, it didn't look like CGI, so.
01:46No, it's not CGI.
01:47He must have gotten it, right?
01:48It is not CGI.
01:49Seriously?
01:50You had a bit of a tempestuous relationship with Scott Lang
01:54when we first met Jimmy Woo.
01:56Let's start with that.
01:58Yeah, but I mean, so like at this point,
02:00after like seeing everything that happened in Avengers Endgame,
02:04do you think that his perspective on superheroes has maybe changed?
02:07And do you think maybe he brags about knowing Scott Lang?
02:11I think so.
02:13I think so.
02:13I think Jimmy is kind of, yeah, he's kind of,
02:20he uses it for cool points, you know?
02:22I think there is a childlike nature about him, you know?
02:27Magic.
02:28And I could for sure see that playing out
02:32in his recollection of his times with Scott.
02:36It totally romanticized.
02:37He was there along with him the entire way.
02:40Yeah.
02:40Totally, yeah.
02:41Making up stuff that didn't happen, you know?
02:44Did you want to grab dinner or something?
02:46I mean, because I'm free.
02:47We haven't seen Darcy since Thor The Dark World,
02:50and that means like in addition to the amount of time
02:52that we haven't seen her,
02:53that means she was also living through the entire time
02:55that she wasn't blipped.
02:57So like, how far did you go as far as just kind of like
02:59mapping her life?
03:02Well, that's right.
03:03So there, you know, a lot is addressed,
03:06but nothing to do with the time exactly
03:09and what Darcy's been doing.
03:10So it's kind of up to the viewer to fill that in.
03:13But as an actor, for me, I was like, okay, well,
03:16she's seen some stuff.
03:18She's obviously looked through some things
03:20and she's been in college this entire time.
03:22So I think she's just the same exact Darcy,
03:27but now she's a professional and she demands respect.
03:31Miss Lewis.
03:34Dr. Lewis.
03:35And actually, I mean, was that kind of part of it?
03:36Just like as far as the dialogue,
03:37because it's classy, classic Darcy snark
03:40when she's especially like back in the back of the van
03:42with those other scientists.
03:43Like, was there a process of just making sure
03:45that the voice was right?
03:47Yes.
03:48Actually, that's such a good question
03:50because when you're acting,
03:52there are only a few things you can do.
03:54You can't change your face,
03:56but you can change your voice and how you speak.
03:58So I try, I mean, my voice is so annoying
04:02and people are definitely quick to point that out
04:05and there's nothing I can do about it.
04:06So I definitely did watch some Darcy stuff
04:10just to remember what I was doing with my voice
04:12and my register
04:14and try to bring it a little more down,
04:16you know, because now she's a professional.
04:20She's a doctor.
04:21Maybe I could get that coffee now.
04:25Or not.
04:26That's cool.
04:27One of the cool things about Jimmy Woo's role
04:29and kind of like the whole sword operation in WandaVision
04:32is that it's kind of a fan surrogate program.
04:34They're watching WandaVision the same way
04:37that fans are watching WandaVision
04:38and trying to just pick out all the clues.
04:40Was that something that was an influence on your performance?
04:44Um, it wasn't something that I was fully conscious of
04:49until I started, until I saw the episodes, you know,
04:52but it was something that I was, you know,
04:56conscious of in terms of just the character
04:58being very confused, you know,
05:01and wanting to find the answers to these questions.
05:04I mean, that was a genuine thing
05:06that Jimmy was going through.
05:07Between you, me, and the bedpost,
05:09I am not confident about this mission.
05:11And it wasn't until I watched the episodes
05:13that I was like, oh, wow,
05:15the audience is going through the exact same thing
05:18and they're asking the exact same questions
05:20that he's writing on the board, you know,
05:21which is pretty, pretty amazing.
05:24And really cool to be, to represent the audience
05:28in that way.
05:28Yeah, it was definitely that fun moment
05:32of Darcy and Jimmy Woo eating chips,
05:34watching the show like the viewer.
05:36Cause you know, the first three episodes on purpose
05:39are kind of, you're just like, what is going on?
05:41What is happening?
05:42What is this?
05:43And then to see another character
05:45or two other characters also being like,
05:47what am I watching?
05:48There's something really fun about that.
05:50And I think it's a really fun guidepost
05:52for the viewer to see other people being confused.
05:58Like how much did you actually know
05:59about what's going on?
06:01Well, I had a very unique opportunity
06:04where we did do table reads.
06:06So I actually got the scripts,
06:09which I didn't expect at all.
06:12So I knew what was going on.
06:15I mean, whoa.
06:17But there was a point in filming where I was like,
06:19you know, Darcy doesn't know everything.
06:23I don't wanna know everything.
06:24And also I don't wanna know too much
06:27so that I don't have to hide too much.
06:29So it was partially self-preservation
06:31and partially for my character,
06:33that there was a point where I just focused
06:35on Darcy's stuff.
06:37And so I don't really know exactly what happens anymore.
06:42Along with everybody else.
06:44I did kind of know most of it.
06:47You know, I wouldn't say all of it,
06:48but I knew most of it going in.
06:50And, but you know, you just,
06:53when you're in the scene,
06:54you're just kind of in the moment.
06:56And you kind of forget about what you know,
07:00you know, because it's just,
07:02you're just kind of living it.
07:04And it is genuinely perplexing,
07:06you know, the situation.
07:07Well, you're not Randall Park.
07:08You're Jimmy Woo.
07:09Yeah, exactly.
07:12So yeah, I mean, it did feel like a puzzle.
07:15It felt like a puzzle that we were trying to figure out.
07:17I'm only through the Ds,
07:18but so far I got deadly squad.
07:20Speaking entirely theoretically,
07:22we know that Jane Foster is going to be becoming Thor
07:25in the next Thor movie.
07:26What do you think Darcy Lewis's reaction
07:28to seeing that would be?
07:30Just complete confusion.
07:32Probably still attracted to Thor,
07:36but maybe in a more platonic way.
07:40But why?
07:40Hey man, we're working with the same scarcity of intel.
07:43I don't know.
07:44As a fan, I'm desperate for this movie.
07:46I mean, I'm like, I can't wait for it.
07:49Same.
07:50Well, thank you so much again for taking the time today.
07:52I cannot wait to see more of this show
07:54and more of Darcy Lewis.
07:55So thank you again.
