The late US President Jimmy Carter received a funeral service at the National Cathedral in Washington DC. All living current and former presidents were in attendance, in addition to foreign dignitaries, to witness the final honouring of the 39th US president.

00:06Cathedral in the U.S. Capitol.
00:09Multiple foreign dignitaries were present at the final honoring of the 39th president,
00:14including Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.N. Secretary General Antonio
00:18Guterres.
00:21All living, current and former presidents were also in attendance, including President-elect
00:25Donald Trump.
00:27The incoming U.S. president was seated in the second row alongside Bill Clinton and
00:31his wife Hillary, George W. Bush and his wife, and Barack Obama.
00:38Obama and Trump shared a rare moment as the pair talked, joked and laughed together for
00:42several minutes before the start of the service.
00:46U.S. President Joe Biden, who's set to leave office in less than two weeks, delivered the
00:51eulogy.
00:54Biden shared an emotional message highlighting the deep friendship he and Carter shared for
00:58almost six decades.
01:00The U.S. president praised Carter for his character and unwavering principles, and celebrated
01:05his accomplishments, which he says were heavily discounted.
01:08Many think he was from a bygone era, but in reality, he saw well into the future, a white
01:20Southern Baptist who led on civil rights, a decorated Navy veteran who brokered peace,
01:31a brilliant nuclear engineer who led on nuclear nonproliferation, a hardworking farmer who
01:40championed conservation and clean energy, and a president who redefined the relationship
01:48of America.
01:53Biden ended the message on a personal note, sharing that he misses Carter, but takes solace
01:58in knowing that he'll be reunited with his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn.
02:03Jimmy Carter's casket was once again loaded on a plane headed to his hometown of Plains,
02:08Georgia.
02:09The late president, who died aged 100 on the 29th of December, will be given a private
02:13funeral with friends and family.
02:16He'll then be buried beside his wife in the small town they were born, grew up, lived
02:20most of their lives, and died.
