00:00It was a bitter cold morning as the Lafayette Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames
00:04from this three-unit apartment building on 10th Street in downtown Lafayette.
00:09So cold, the water from their fire hoses froze in the streets.
00:13A neighbor and witness, Dan Ewing, snapped these photos of the blaze as fire crews arrived.
00:18Smoke was billowing out of the building this morning, primarily from these second-floor
00:22windows and from what looks to be an attic window.
00:26Fire crews worked to get the blaze under control through the morning the last fire truck pulled
00:29away from the scene around 10 a.m.
00:32Fire Chief Brian Alcar told Star City News one person was rescued from the building and
00:36transported to an area hospital.
00:38She's being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
00:41The chief said other residents were unaccounted for but that they were searching for them
00:45this morning.
00:46The fire department said they believe there was a hoarding situation in the building,
00:49which made the search more challenging.
00:52Cadaver dogs were brought in today after the blaze was out, but the battalion chief on
00:56duty said this was only a precaution and they do not believe there were any casualties.
01:01The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is currently under investigation.
01:05We will continue to update as more information is made available.
