00:09some 10,457 people died at sea while attempting the crossing, nearly 30 people every day.
00:15Which is why these images are so unbelievable. According to multiple sources,
00:19these photos were taken during the rescue of several migrant boats.
00:23Authorities say the vessels contained some 363 individuals,
00:27including a newborn baby that was birthed during the journey.
00:30Rescuers say that when they were found, the mother was calm and in good health.
00:34They added that unbelievably so was the infant. Both were taken aboard and rushed to an airport,
00:39where they were transported to a hospital for further observation and evaluation.
00:43The migrant boat, which facilitated the mother and newborn's crossing,
00:46was packed with some 60 people, including at least four suspected minors.
00:50The Canary Islands have been a hotspot for migrants in recent years,
00:54fueled by myriad political, economic, and environmental factors in Africa.
