00:00Squid Game Season 2 is full of twists and turns, but one of those twists was actually
00:04given away several episodes before the end. Did you catch it? Major spoilers ahead for
00:08Squid Game Season 2. In the first season, Jun-ho was shot by the frontman after learning
00:13that the frontman was, in fact, his brother, In-ho. In the second season, we learn that
00:17Jun-ho survived his brother's assault because a boat driven by a fisherman named Captain
00:21Park pulls him out of the water. After that, Captain Park takes Jun-ho and his team, assembled
00:25by Ji-hun, on excursions to every island he can think of that might contain the games,
00:30with no success.
00:31But in the final episode of Season 2, it turns out that the unassuming Captain Park is actually
00:35a stone-cold killer. He reveals his true colors when he murders one of Ji-hun's henchmen,
00:40who catches Park in the act of sabotaging their search drones. Yes, Captain Park works
00:44for the games, and you can bet he won't let Jun-ho and Ji-hun's men find them. But there
00:48was a huge clue about Park's true nature before this, even if both the characters and viewers
00:52failed to see it.
00:54Captain Park never reveals his true agenda to Jun-ho, but he makes a mistake while waiting
00:58to take off in his boat with Choi Woo-suk, the leader of Ji-hun's mercenaries. When Park
01:02asks Woo-suk why they're looking for the island with renewed intensity, Woo-suk tells him
01:06he can't reveal exactly what they're doing, but let's slip that they have an insider on
01:10the island.
01:11The man who was in the games?
01:14Huh?
01:15Who?
01:16Yep, he's talking about Ji-hun. But instead of being suspicious of how Captain Park knows
01:21that, Woo-suk is quickly placated by Park's explanation that Jun-ho has filled him in
01:25on everything. Woo-suk is soon singing like a bird about what they're doing and why, none
01:29the wiser that he should be suspicious of Captain Park. In fact, this clue is so subtle
01:33that you might have fallen for Park's even-handed explanation as well.
01:36I thought all that crap was in his head, with the games and the 45.6 billion won.
01:41He gives a smooth performance, but the bigger question is what Park's role is in the larger
01:46picture. The most likely explanation for his presence at this stage of the story is that
01:50the frontman had him save Jun-ho because he didn't want his brother to die. Granted,
01:54Jun-ho ended up in a coma for a year, but if it had been anyone else, you can bet the
01:58frontman would have been perfectly happy to let them drown. Still, the frontman would
02:01want Jun-ho watched, because Jun-ho had already infiltrated the games once. Captain Park had
02:06the perfect excuse to look in on Jun-ho because Jun-ho commissioned him to look for the island.
02:11And Captain Park may not be alone. The frontman may also be responsible for the other captain
02:15that takes half of Ji-hun's men to another section of the islands. Between the two of
02:19them and the many, many soldiers that help run the games, Jun-ho and his colleagues could
02:23be up against more than they realize.
02:25And to be honest, Jun-ho's storyline throughout Season 2 wasn't the most exciting thing going
02:29on. He just goes from island to island searching for the games, doesn't have to face any real
02:33antagonists to speak of, and hardly makes any progress in his search. In fact, he's
02:37even further away from finding the truth than he was in the first season. But with the revelation
02:41that Park is indeed an opponent to him and Ji-hun's hired hands, Season 3 may be more
02:46interesting for Jun-ho. When he does find out, there could be a major showdown between
02:49them.
02:50Of course, Jun-ho's main goal is to find the frontman and put a stop to what he's doing.
02:54But in the meantime, Captain Park will be a dangerous nemesis for Jun-ho and a good
02:58substitute for the frontman — at least until Jun-ho manages to have his moment of truth
03:02with his brother.
