00:00Too much, too little?
00:02The internet has a lot to say about basketball star Angel Reese's latest look.
00:06Stick around for the dress that took Reese off of Instagram.
00:09The new year started off with a bang for Angel Reese, who wore perhaps her most skin-bearing
00:14outfit to date for New Year's Eve.
00:16Even if you don't follow the WNBA, you've probably heard Reese's name in the context
00:20of her very public feud with the league's current superstar, Kaitlyn Clark.
00:24Reese made herself a lightning rod in the 2024 season, and she kept her attention for
00:29a different reason this last New Year's Eve.
00:31Her outfit consisted of a brown print dress with a plunging neckline that went down just
00:36below her navel.
00:37It showed plenty of skin and put her curves on display, and predictably, the revealing
00:41number brought about plenty of comments from Reese fans — and non-fans — as footage
00:46of her in the ensemble was shared across social media.
00:49Plenty of people showed up in the comments section of her TikTok post to compliment the
00:53WNBA star, with fans calling the outfit beautiful and gorgeous and other variations of the same
00:59sentiment.
01:00But not everyone was thrilled to see the Chicago Sky Forward flaunt her figure in the
01:04Barely There dress, and plenty of people voiced their displeasure.
01:07In fact, multiple people brought up a press conference Reese gave in April 2024, where
01:12she thanked her teammates for standing by her through negative press and online commentary.
01:16"'Debt threats, I've been sexualized, I've been threatened, I've been so many things
01:22and I've stood strong every single time.'"
01:24Referencing that statement, one person sarcastically tweeted,
01:28This video backs her claims up that she doesn't want to be sexualized.
01:31The blowback was so intense that Reese deleted not only her New Year's Eve posts from Instagram,
01:36but her entire profile.
01:38Of course, this is far from the first time Reese has stepped out in revealing outfits.
01:42Just a few weeks before the controversial New Year's Eve look, Reese wore a low-cut
01:46top to the 2024 Footwear News Achievement Awards.
01:49She sported a black ensemble which included a corset top and an open black blazer.
01:54The WNBA star was given the Style Influencer of the Year award at the event and brought
01:58up her sponsorship deal with Reebok in her speech, saying,
02:01"'They've given me the platform to be myself, unapologetically myself.'"
02:05It's pretty clear that in the past, Reese hasn't let the haters get her down, and frankly,
02:10who cares what she wears?
02:11Her social media feeds are full of outfits and different fashion statements.
02:15Earlier in December 2024, Reese showed off another scintillating look on X that saw her
02:20in a black sheer mesh top with a pair of short cheetah print shorts and a matching jacket.
02:25Similar to the New Year's Eve dress post, the replies to the outfit were filled with
02:28a mix of gushing fans and commenters referencing her sexualized comment from earlier in the
02:33year.
02:34One of the common threads in the comments sections of these posts has to do with the
02:37idea that Reese is prioritizing glam over working on her basketball career, but that's
02:42kind of a strange argument to make based on a bunch of 10-second TikTok videos and dresses.
02:47Reese recently signed on to play with the budding 3-on-3 Unrivaled League, which she'll
02:51participate in during the WNBA's offseason, so basketball is clearly still a priority.
02:57In fact, juggling the court and an influencer lifestyle is something she talked about to
03:01ESPN after balancing a practice session for the Chicago Sky, a preseason game, and the
03:07Met Gala in May 2024.
03:08"'You gotta maximize your life.
03:11You don't get these opportunities.
03:13A lot of people don't get these opportunities, and I just try to do as much as I can.'"
03:17And if that's what someone wants to do, it shouldn't be a problem.
03:20But it seems like no matter what Reese steps out in, whether it was her revealing outfit
03:24at the WNBA All-Star Game in July, or her Met Gala look, or her New Year's Eve dress,
03:29her comments section is always going to be filled with negativity.
03:32Maybe the only way to fix that really is to delete it altogether.
