Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey has called for quicker action on social care reforms. It comes as the Health Secretary unveiled a new independent commission on social care on Friday but proposals will not emerge until 2028. "I'm very disappointed and slightly alarmed at this long timescale. It means elderly people and disabled people won't get the care they need and their famililes will suffer too," Mr Davey said.

00:00Well, Liberal Democrats have long campaigned for a cross-party commission, but we had expected
00:05that it could be done and dusted within a year, so I'm very disappointed and slightly
00:10alarmed at this long timescale. That means that many elderly people and disabled people
00:16won't get the care they need and their families will suffer as a result too. And the NHS won't
00:22get the boost. By reforming social care and tackling the care crisis, you sort out a lot
00:28of the problems in the NHS. So I'm really bewildered by the decision. I think it's
00:33wrong this timescale is so protracted.
