00:002025 is officially here.
00:06However, with the ringing in of the new year, we're also ringing in a new generation.
00:11Every 15 years or so, we usher in a generation of infants, those who are defined by the time
00:15in which they are born.
00:17In the middle of the last century, we had the baby boomers, those marked by the boom
00:20of infants post-World War II.
00:22After that, we had Generation X before Millennials who came of age around the turn of the century.
00:27Now Gen Z are adults, and Gen Alpha after them are now coming of age in the mid-2020s.
00:33So who are the new generation?
00:34Well, the aptly, if not too original, Gen Beta.
00:37According to research firm MacRindle, in the next decade, Gen Beta's population will boom,
00:42making up 16% of all people on Earth.
00:45The firm also says that same percentage will live to see the 2100s.
00:49And while Millennials came of age in the early days of the internet, Gen Beta will do the
00:52same in the days of the artificial intelligence takeover.
00:56These currently newborns are set to have to tackle major societal issues tied to that,
01:00as well as the ever-worsening climate crisis.
