00:00After being closed for just over two years, a popular walk on the south coast
00:05has reopened just in time for summer. Heavy rains in 2020 resulted in the
00:12closure of Gossengs Tunnel and Mermaids Inlet near Currawong. But following some
00:17daredevil remediation work, access to both natural wonders are open again.
00:23Gossengs Tunnel, an elevated sea cave that's been shaped by a millennia of
00:27storms smashing into point perpendicular surrounds, is located along a natural
00:33geological fault. You may need to get on all fours to explore and it can also get
00:40very windy so just be sure to hang on to your hat.
00:43Meanwhile some say the adjacent mermaid inlets, which is partially filled with
00:48giant slabs of rock, was the result of either a 70 meter high tsunami or big
00:55storms that once smashed into this part of the coastline. Gossengs Tunnel is
01:00accessed via an easy two kilometer one-way walk from Currawong. Fun for all
01:06the family.
