00:00In the middle of every party this holiday season, the Department of Health is reminding us not to drive if you're drunk.
00:08Especially now that there are almost 500 road traffic injuries since December 22.
00:14Here is the first news, Mico Juahe.
00:17496 road traffic incidents have been reported by the Department of Health since December 22 in 8 pilot sites that they are monitoring nationwide.
00:30At that time, Christmas parties and drinking parties are held on both sides.
00:34According to the DOH, Region 2 is leading in their data, followed by Region 7, Region 11, 4th NCR, and 5th Region 1.
00:4333 percent of the cases are higher this year compared to 331 cases in 2023.
00:50We call this road traffic injuries or road crashes. We don't want to call it an accident because an accident means it cannot be avoided.
01:01Road traffic injuries can be avoided if we wear a helmet, if we wear seatbelts, if we follow traffic rules, and if we just pass by.
01:1270 percent of the cases are male victims, most of them are 20 to 24 years old.
01:18427 of the victims did not wear safety accessories such as helmets or seatbelts in their vehicles.
01:26The injuries or the types of injuries that our cases received are in descending order, abrasion, contusion, open wound, closed fracture, avulsion, and open fracture.
01:41356 or 72 percent of the total number of cases are involving riders or motorcyclists, where only 10 of them are wearing helmets.
01:516 out of 496 died and 4 of them were motorcyclists.
01:56The DOH also released data that 83 of the road traffic incidents were those who were drunk.
02:02The DOH reminds that if someone is going to and leaving, make sure that the driver is in good condition, including the vehicle.
02:10Don't drink alcohol and rest for 6 to 8 hours so we won't fall asleep on the road.
02:18When we go out, our vehicles should be in good condition so this won't happen again.
02:25It is often said that there is no penalty or other reasons.
02:28This is the first news, Niko Juaje for GMA Integrated News.
