The scene would have taken place after Tony Stark sacrificed himself for the good of the universe, and would have seen him talking to his daughter in the afterlife. It would have been the only time in the film we would have seen Katherine Langford as a grown Morgan Stark, and while the scene was emotional, it was ultimately deemed unnecessary. Let's take a look at the Endgame deleted scene that would have shown us Tony Stark in the afterlife.

00:00Avengers Endgame tugged on our heartstrings plenty, but a deleted scene would have straight-up
00:05yanked on them.
00:06The scene in question, recently made available on Disney+, depicts Tony Stark visiting an
00:11ethereal afterlife immediately after his universe-saving snap.
00:15There, he encounters an adult version of his daughter, Morgan.
00:18While Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo had previously discussed the scene, we had
00:22yet to get a look at it before now, and it's every bit as poignant as you'd expect.
00:26In the scene, Stark suddenly finds himself alone in the peaceful realm, seemingly confused
00:31as to where everybody went.
00:32Just as he begins to realize what must be happening, Morgan makes her appearance.
00:36At first, Stark isn't sure who he's looking at, but when Morgan offers the clue that the
00:40two are pretty close, he figures it out pretty quickly.
00:44Stark's face registers a thousand emotions as he looks at the daughter he'll never get
00:47to know, and he admits to wondering if he made the wrong decision in sacrificing himself.
00:52And of course, the scene ends exactly as you'd expect.
00:55I love you, 3000."
00:58There's amazing chemistry in the scene between Robert Downey Jr. and Catherine Langford,
01:02who unfortunately was robbed of an appearance in the biggest movie of all time when this
01:05scene hit the cutting room floor.
01:07It wouldn't surprise us, though, if Morgan Stark were to make an appearance in a future
01:11MCU film or several.
01:13In their commentary on the scene, the Russo brothers explain that it was conceived as
01:16a sort of bookend to a scene in Avengers Infinity War, specifically the scene in which Thanos,
01:21having just accomplished his mission to snap half of all life in the universe out of existence,
01:25was basically transported inside the Soul Stone.
01:28There, he encountered a young version of his adopted daughter Gamora, who was one of the
01:32many people who died at Thanos' hands so that he could accomplish his mission.
01:36Joe Russo explained,
01:37"...we sent him to what we would call the Waystation, to mirror what had happened to
01:40Thanos."
01:41Anthony Russo added that,
01:42"...the idea is that this moment, the act of using the Infinity Stones, sort of forces
01:47you to confront or reconcile something that's unresolved in yourself, in your soul."
01:51Joe then explained that the reason an adult Morgan was cast was so Stark could come to
01:55terms with what he had done, and truly understand the fact that he was giving up so much time
01:59spent with his daughter throughout her life.
02:02However, at the end of the day, the scene was cut for reasons that are pretty understandable
02:06when you're talking about a flick that already ran in excess of three hours.
02:09Pacing.
02:10As Joe Russo puts it,
02:11"...when we put this in the film, we felt like it ground the movie to a halt, and Stark
02:15does something similar in the next sequence, when he gives his own eulogy via hologram
02:19at his funeral."
02:21The director continued to say that he and his brother were mindful of adding too many
02:24endings, which is a problem that popped up in The Lord of the Rings The Return of the
02:28King.
02:29Audiences might have felt like the film had ended on the perfect sentimental note, only
02:32for it to continue on to another, and another.
02:35According to Joe,
02:36"...what can happen at the end of a film this big is you can have ending after ending after
02:39ending and it starts to feel like the movie's never gonna end."
02:43In other words, the powers of the individual moments are watered down.
02:46"...and then the endings, when you have too many sequences in a row, you can dilute the
02:51value of each one of them."
02:53Taking all of these things into account, the pair reluctantly decided that the scene had
02:57to go.
02:58Still, that doesn't mean we can't admire its power.
03:00Anyone in their right mind would admit that there wouldn't have been a dry eye in the
03:03house at its conclusion had they left it in.
03:05Unfortunately, only time will tell whether Morgan Stark will make any further appearances
03:10in the MCU.
03:11In the meantime, though, you can revisit the triumphs and tragedies of Avengers Endgame
03:15to your heart's content with a Disney Plus subscription.
03:17The movie is available to watch on the new streaming service right now.
