00:17However, there are fewer bottles to go around as bad weather, made worse by climate change,

00:25In 2023, the EU produced nearly 1.5 billion litres of sparkling wine.
00:31That's down by 8% compared with 2022.
00:35In 2023, the top producing countries were Italy with 638 million litres,
00:42France with 312 million litres and Germany with 263 million litres.
00:50In the same year, the EU exported 600 million litres of sparkling wine to known EU countries,
00:57marking an 8% fall compared to 2022 export figures.
01:02In 2023, Italy's Prosecco topped EU bubbly wine exports with nearly half the market,
01:09followed by sparkling wine from fresh grapes at 17%,
01:14French Champagne at 15% and Spanish Cava at 10%.
01:19Meanwhile, EU countries imported 5 million litres of sparkling wine
01:24from outside the bloc, corresponding to less than 1% of the amount exported.
