00:00A blessed afternoon to you and welcome to the Midday Bilingual Newscast
00:19broadcasting live from Studio 5 of the Production Center in Balatour.
00:23Hello Rosalie.
00:30Welcome to the Midday Bilingual Newscast. Here are the headlines.
00:35Well, mining production, Cameroon will soon transform its iron,
00:40the modern siderurgical complex of Kribi officially takes shape on Monday, December 30,
00:46laying the first stone of the construction works
00:50in the presence of the Prime Minister, Chief of the Government, Chief Doctor Joseph John Gouthet.
00:56The colors of the New Year's Eve in the 12 hours,
00:58in prolongation of the Christmas party and in prelude to the New Year,
01:03we maintain the cap, new decorations, new clothes,
01:06big market, its press among consumers and merchants,
01:11mercury climbs, temperature in the east and south of Cameroon to follow.
01:16Little trip to a magazine page, Array Aikondo Titi, in the Ndiang region of the southwest,
01:23we will go there to discover the cultural festival of this locality,
01:28its traditional rhythms of Balondo to follow.
01:32Thank you for joining us at the moment, you are watching the 12 o'clock.
01:37Once again, you are welcome to this bilingual news edition.
01:40Rosalie told you in the lead stories that efforts have been made to propel Cameroon's mining activities.
01:46As we speak, the ceremony for the laying of the foundation stone
01:50of the Kribi Modern Steel Complex is underway.
01:53The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph John Gouthet,
01:57is representing President Paul Biya at the event.
02:00Currently, the country's annual steel production capacity stands at 300,000 tons.
02:06With a construction of a Kribi Modern Steel Complex in view,
02:09the production capacity will go up to over 1 million tons per annum.
02:15That will give you details of that in our subsequent editions.
02:18From economy, we talk security.
02:20To ensure the safety of goods and persons,
02:23defence and security forces have been deployed at strategic locations
02:27in the town of Tuboro that shares borders with Chad and the Central African Republic.
02:33The move, in essence, is to combat cases of kidnapping for ransom and cattle theft.
02:38One of our envoys, Albert Ndiangbonde, joins us from Tuboro cattle market with updates.
02:44Hello, Albert, how is it going out there?
02:49Good afternoon, Ndiangbonde, and you are welcome to the Tuboro cattle market.
02:54In fact, we are just a few kilometres away from the borderline between Cameroon and Chad
03:00and the borderline between the Central African Republic and Cameroon.
03:05And that's why Tuboro has been called the town of three borders.
03:13This is a sub-regional market.
03:16That's why it's also called a market of integration.
03:19Many of these cattle you see here are actually cows that you find in Cameroonian markets.
03:26And so you have lots and lots of trucks that have been brought in to ferry the cattle
03:35in the inner parts of the country.
03:37We are also told that this business activity is also attracting a lot of traffickers.
03:45There are quite a number of them who tell you about just how business is flourishing here.
04:03Do the cows come out from outside?
04:05They don't come from Chad.
04:07Cows don't come from Chad. All of them don't come from Chad.
04:09Nobody's here, no.
04:11And because of the cases of rampant kidnappings for ransom,
04:16as well as cattle thefts, administrative authorities and defence and security forces
04:21have taken quite a number of measures to secure people and their property here,
04:26and also cattle herdsmen and merchants to ensure that when business is done,
04:32it's done in total security.
04:35And that's what makes Tuboro, Tuboro.
04:39From where we are signing out, Elvis Kana and myself,
04:42Albert Jembonde, with the editing assistance of Olivier Kuno.
04:47Back to you, Yaoundé.
04:48Thanks very much, Albert and your team.
04:51In religion, Catholic faithful of the Saint-Michel-Lacange parish,
04:54a.k.a. in the Yaoundé 4 subdivision,
04:57will soon have a befitting church building.
05:00Construction works have officially begun with the Vicar General of the Yaoundé Archdiocese,
05:05his Lordship, Gabriel N'Do, calling on the Christians to fully participate
05:10in building the new house of worship.
05:12Upon completion, the structure will host thousands of believers.
05:16The Saint-Michel-Lacange parish has been existing for close to 30 years.
05:22Rosalie, we're heading back to Tuboro, to Kribi.
05:27Of course, speaking of this mining production,
05:30Cameroon will soon transform its iron.
05:36Kribi's modern siderurgical complex will officially begin construction on Monday, December 30.
05:43The laying of the first stone will take place on the same day,
05:46in the presence of the Prime Minister, the head of the government,
05:50Chief Doctor Joseph Dionne Goutet.
05:53This project will boost the national economy
05:57and generate a little more than 2,000 jobs.
06:02Let's go now to the discovery, this Monday, of Tuboro,
06:06in the Mayoré region of the North,
06:10an area in the future,
06:12riddled with Cameroon and even the sub-region.
06:15Its agricultural potential and its geographical location
06:19make it a great commercial hub,
06:21unfortunately prey to trans-frontal insecurity.
06:26Fortunately, the deployment of defense and security forces
06:31has reduced, in their simplest expression, the activities of the outlaws.
06:37More details with Joseph Goutet,
06:40special envoy of the CRTV in Tuboro.
06:43Hello Joseph.
06:45Thank you for joining us here in Tuboro,
06:49one of the four districts of the department of the Mayoré.
06:53Why the choice of Tuboro?
06:55It is not a simplistic choice.
06:57In fact, Tuboro is a place to become.
07:01Here, the populations have very good relations with the land.
07:05They mainly grow cotton, rice, corn, sorghum, soy
07:10and many other crop crops.
07:13In addition to that,
07:14there are populations that also practice farming,
07:18the breeding of small ruminants and large ones.
07:20Speaking of large ones, it is mainly oxen.
07:23There are thousands of oxen here.
07:26The populations have many shepherds.
07:29And to better market the cattle,
07:33there is a special market here that takes place every Sunday.
07:37It is the Tuboro cattle market.
07:40Here, the merchants come from Nigeria,
07:43Chad, and the Central African Republic to supply themselves.
07:48Naturally, they also come from the back country, Cameroon,
07:52to supply themselves,
07:54and therefore to sell in detail.
07:56Seeing the emergence of all these activities,
08:00the Orlaloa, with the complicity of a few people inside,
08:03estimated that they could also develop their activities.
08:08And President Poulbia, head of the Armed Forces,
08:12concerned with the security and even the protection of its citizens,
08:17has deployed a special force here
08:19that ensures the safety of the populations.
08:22This is, of course, the 31st BIM,
08:25the 31st Motorized Infantry Battalion,
08:28which ensures and regulates these activities.
08:31Since 2020, the peak of kidnappings with ransom demands
08:35had been reached.
08:37But since the forces are deployed
08:40alongside the police and the gendarmerie,
08:42everything has changed.
08:43Nothing is the same as before.
08:45Making Tuboro a place to be.
08:48Tuboro, which is in the northern region,
08:51which is also in the southern region,
08:53that is to say, this locality of the three borders
08:57that brings together merchants from all over the world.
09:00Elvis Kana, from Olivier Kounou, Joseph Itote.
09:06Thank you, Joseph Tuboro.
09:08This is a place to visit.
09:10Religious infrastructure.
09:12A new building in gestation.
09:14This is the parish of Saint-Michel-Archange-des-Quiers.
09:17This Monday is dedicated to the construction work of this chapel.
09:22As a result, for the launch,
09:24a mass was held in the presence of Monsignor Mincha Ndo,
09:29Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Yaoundé,
09:32as a representative of the Metropolitan Archdiocese.
09:36For the priest Augustin Autoun Tolo,
09:39this project is a good omen
09:41that will allow to expand the capacity of the faithful.
09:45La Sierre TV will return to this news
09:48during the next editions.
10:07to Cameroon, His Excellency Minami Kentaro.
10:11The diplomat has expressed his country's interest
10:14in broadening ties in the maritime industry.
10:17Bruno Dunway-Fonwe reports.
10:20The Buamanga Landing Platform, constructed in 2006,
10:23is a magnanimous center for fishing activities in the ocean's vision.
10:27The docking platform, known as Seko Park, is a common ground
10:30where fishers meet retailers
10:32and has become a tourist destination
10:34for fishing activities.
10:36The Japanese ambassador to Cameroon, Minami Kentaro,
10:39visiting the site is because of one of their strong links
10:42of collaboration with Cameroon,
10:44which is fishing, aside agriculture and the environment.
10:47He expressed interest in promoting the fishing sector
10:50following the series of support
10:52his country has extended to Seko Park.
10:55It is a very important project for us.
10:58I've been here three weeks
11:00and I've come to take stock
11:02of how the activities here are going on
11:05and look into what conditions they are working in
11:08in order to see how to foster collaboration.
11:11The diplomat equally appreciated his country's collaboration
11:14with the Kribi City Council
11:16and the work they do to ensure the social security
11:19of the artisanal fishes of the Buamanga Seko Park in Kribi.
11:23Back here in the center region,
11:26strides are being made towards the development
11:29of the Nkolmetet Municipality
11:31in the Nyong'en Suu Division of the center region,
11:34as I mentioned earlier.
11:36The most recent is the signing of an agreement
11:39between the Nkolmetet Council
11:41and the Cameroon Chamber of Agriculture, Fisheries,
11:44Livestock and Forests.
11:46This and more with Pelsa.
11:48The eight fish ponds at the Nkolmetet Council
11:51showcases their interest in promoting fish culture,
11:54which is vital and contributes
11:57to the import substitution policy.
11:59Their convention with the Chamber of Agriculture,
12:02Fisheries, Livestock and Forests, CAPEF,
12:06will enable them benefit from technical expertise
12:09and assistance aimed at boosting fish production
12:12in the municipality.
12:14We are going to work with the Nkolmetet Council
12:17in order to improve the capacity of production of fish.
12:21Municipal councillors from Nkolmetet
12:23also conveyed and identified priority projects
12:26for the year 2025
12:28and adopted the sum of 1.2 billion
12:31to be used for development projects
12:33within the municipality.
12:37The budget will be used for the construction
12:39and rehabilitation of roads.
12:41The renovation of schools and other health projects
12:44will also construct a new town hall.
12:47In the presence of the SZO for the Nyong'en Suu,
12:50Emmanuel Ledu Engamba,
12:52the council members were urged
12:55to work closely for the realization
12:57of socio-economic projects
12:59that can enhance the living standards
13:01of the estimated 25,000 inhabitants
13:04residing in the 32 villages of Nkolmetet.
13:09We are less than 48 hours to the start of 2025.
13:13As the countdown narrows,
13:15preparations for New Year's Eve intensify.
13:18In Ebolova, south of the country,
13:20owners of nightclubs and hotspots
13:22are taking necessary measures
13:24to make the last day of the year memorable.
13:27Silas Nkwain completes the story.
13:30With New Year's Eve just a few hours away,
13:33many bars, nightclubs and restaurants in Ebolova
13:36are preparing to serve those
13:38who come out to celebrate.
13:40It will be one of the busiest nights
13:42of the year in the town.
13:45We are promising a big evening
13:47called the Evening of Stars,
13:49a very festive New Year's Eve
13:51with lots of ambience and entertainment.
13:55Many things which the nightclub's promoter
13:57says he prefers to keep as a surprise.
14:00We are promising many good things.
14:02Surprises are not to be told on TV.
14:05Come in large numbers.
14:07It will be a night of fire
14:09as we look forward to welcoming 2025.
14:12For his part, the manager of the Polbija Square,
14:15located at the heart of Ebolova,
14:17says security is his utmost priority.
14:21The Polbija Square is planning to heighten security.
14:25We have already approached the security forces.
14:29As the eve of the New Year's Eve
14:31approaches at high speed,
14:33night party venues and many hotspots
14:36in the town of Ebolova are undergoing transformation,
14:39promising non-stop Makossa,
14:41Bikutsi, Njang, R&B and Afrobeat tunes,
14:44to name just a few.
14:47Let's stay in the Saint-Sylvestre range.
14:50The transition from 2024 to 2025
14:53is being prepared actively in the city of Berthois,
14:56in the Brassicol establishments and other snack bars.
15:00It is time for stock supplies
15:02and the mobilization of staff.
15:04In addition to the material preparation,
15:07some do not neglect the spiritual aspect at all.
15:10The security forces of the order
15:12take great care of the safety of citizens.
15:15The night of the crossing,
15:17as it is being prepared in Berthois,
15:19with Luc Ovono of CRTV Est.
15:23Berthois citizens make purchases
15:25and are preparing to spend the night of the crossing
15:28in good conditions.
15:29This night of crossing is an excellent night for me
15:33since I am promoted to be a high-level captain
15:37and I am doing water and juice purchases.
15:41We are going to meet as a family,
15:43we are going to go to church,
15:45wait for midnight,
15:47wish each other a happy new year,
15:48pray for the new year.
15:49In snack bars and other bars,
15:51it is time for cleaning and refueling
15:53in order to avoid any shortage on the day of the crossing.
15:56We have a lot of stock of drinks
15:59so that our customers can not miss their taste.
16:02Our staff are mobilized,
16:04including three young people from the neighborhood
16:07who will help us.
16:08We plan to have a big buffet
16:11for our customers,
16:13we decided to have a small party
16:16with games,
16:17there will be prizes to win.
16:18Here, we reassure that special provisions
16:21will be taken for the broadcast of the traditional speech
16:24of the President of the Republic.
16:25This year, we added two more screens.
16:28We are waiting for the speech of the head of state,
16:30Mr. Paul Biard, at the crossing.
16:32Stores and other commercial spaces
16:34are also active in providing a quality service.
16:37In the streets and neighborhoods,
16:39law enforcement is watching
16:41so that the people of Berthois
16:43can experience the crossing in 2025
16:45in peace.
16:48And we stay in the region of East Cameroon
16:50with this phenomenon of insecurity.
16:52The Cameroonian police do not sleep.
16:55Two gloves of Malfra have just been dismantled.
16:58Their specialty, aggression and theft.
17:01The witch hunt has led to the arrest
17:04of several outlaws.
17:06This police action is part of a series
17:09aimed at ensuring the safety of goods and people
17:12at the end of the year.
17:14Details in this correspondence
17:16by Roger Samakipourou.
17:19The first glove of Malfra
17:21was dismantled on the night of the 24th
17:24to the 25th of December
17:26in the Enya neighborhood in Berthois.
17:28A lady was stabbed everywhere.
17:31When we got the information,
17:33we sent the team to the field
17:35who, with the help of the population,
17:37took care of the individual.
17:39The exploitation of these individuals
17:41has allowed us to dismantle
17:43a whole gang that is extremely dangerous.
17:45Three of the eight members of another gang
17:47fell into the ranks of the teams
17:49of the central police station
17:51in the city of Berthois
17:53on the evening of December 25, 2024.
17:56The children who were visibly in the forest
18:00at the end of the year,
18:02at Christmas,
18:04during the management of the complex,
18:07were assaulted by a gang of armed men.
18:11After respecting these young teenagers,
18:15they took phones, money
18:18and many other valuables.
18:20For several weeks,
18:22the teams of the national police
18:24have been deployed on the field
18:26under the coordination of the regional delegate
18:28of national security for the East,
18:30the division commissioner Mathieu-Claude Abondon.
18:33We invite the population
18:35to more collaboration.
19:03This year's festival
19:05provided a unique opportunity
19:07for sons and daughters of Ekundotiti
19:09to showcase their rich cultural heritage
19:11which had been dwindling
19:13as a result of the socio-political crisis.
19:15Consequently,
19:17the traditional ruler
19:19enjoined the population
19:21to put hands on deck
19:23to ensure peace,
19:25local and national development.
19:27All to put hands on deck,
19:29bring back peace in Ekundotiti,
19:31develop Ekundotiti,
19:33join government,
19:35see how we can develop Ekundotiti,
19:37the young division and Cameroon as a whole.
19:39Also present was a divisional officer
19:41of Ekundotiti
19:43who saluted the efforts of the chief
19:45while calling for continuous collaboration
19:47between the population
19:49and local administrative authorities.
19:51After the first edition,
19:53we have realized, we have noticed
19:55relative peace in Ekundotiti,
19:57meaning that the closeness to the chief,
19:59to his people, his education,
20:01his advice to them
20:03has made it possible
20:05for them to collaborate
20:07and to fight against this evil
20:09which has been drawing the subdivision back.
20:11The festival featured a display
20:13of traditional dances from Ekundotiti
20:15as well as from other communities
20:17residents in the locality
20:19and neighboring villages,
20:21local gastronomy and cultural melodies.
20:23Without rhythm, ballon d'or,
20:25in 12 hours,
20:27a pleasure to see this.
20:29Let's go to sport, now football.
20:31Elite One, the fifth day
20:33has made its copy yesterday in Garoua.
20:35Gazelle Football Academy
20:37has imposed a goal at home
20:39to 0 in front of Asre de Douala,
20:41a difficult match for the other
20:43who managed to take the advantage
20:45over the opponent
20:47despite several missed goals.
20:49Marius Nkalgong
20:51offers the unique goal of the match.
20:53Here is the film of this meeting
20:55since Rondea Dja
20:57with Lea Carmen Zok.
21:01Missed chances
21:03to finish and yellow cards.
21:05This meeting which opposed Gazelle
21:07to Asre de Douala
21:09left more than one mixed
21:11during the first half.
21:13Asre dominated the match by imposing
21:15a rather slow rhythm and a low block.
21:17We lacked a bit of cutting
21:19and we came to play a little more
21:21in a situation of quick attack
21:23and counterattack.
21:25Unfortunately, we could not give the ball
21:27in the right timing.
21:29We did not have good calls.
21:31We made bad choices.
21:33From the return of the changing rooms,
21:35Gazelle changed its game
21:37and the result followed at the 65th minute
21:39with a goal by Marius Nkalgong.
21:43It has always been like that with Gazelle.
21:45At home, we have a little trouble
21:47and this afternoon
21:49we absolutely had to win.
21:51There was no way
21:53but the result is there
21:55and it is the most important.
21:57For his next match scheduled for January 5,
21:59Gazelle Football Academy will face
22:01the Eagles of Mungo.
22:03A meeting that is looking good for Gazelle
22:05who already has a big advantage
22:07over his next opponent.
22:09In our foreign news slot,
22:11the 39th President of the United States of America,
22:13Jimmy Carter,
22:15is no more.
22:17The man described as a model of what it means
22:19to live a life of meaning
22:21and purpose passed on at his home
22:23in Plains, Georgia.
22:25Jimmy Carter was the only former U.S. President
22:27to reach 100 years old.
22:29Charles Ebune reports on his legacy.
22:35One of the fewest one-mandate
22:37American presidents,
22:39Jimmy Carter was the longest-lived
22:41American leader
22:43and the first to cross the century
22:45existence life threshold.
22:47As a candidate, as a president,
22:49I'll never tell a lie.
22:51Jimmy Carter witnessed
22:53all the major events of the past century
22:55except the
22:57First World War.
22:59He was brought up in a mixed racial community
23:01in deep south Georgia,
23:03segregated United States
23:05in the era of the Jim Crow laws,
23:07did local politics
23:09with proceeds from a transformed
23:11family farm estate
23:13and climbed to the top of American
23:15politics with his election
23:17as the 39th president
23:19in 1977.
23:21My name is Jimmy Carter and I'm running
23:23for president.
23:25Although
23:27the Iranian hostage crisis
23:29tainted his reputation
23:31as a hero in 1980.
23:33Jimmy Carter do solemnly swear.
23:3522 years ago,
23:37he received the Nobel Peace Prize
23:39and is remembered to have
23:41brokered the most enduring
23:43peace agreement for the Middle
23:45East, the Camp David Accords
23:471978-79.
23:49I think I have been
23:51as blessed as any
23:53human being in the world with
23:55having become the president of the United States
23:57of America and everything's
23:59been a blessing for me. So I'm thankful.
24:01Jimmy Carter was a
24:03pioneer in the climate change
24:05crusade, women rights champion
24:07and indelibly survived
24:09today by the legacy
24:11of the Jimmy Carter Center
24:13whose tentacles entered Cameroon
