00:00Thailand kick off 2024 with a new Prime Minister Setha Thavisin who had been appointed to the
00:05position in August of the previous year. His rise to power followed a controversial alliance
00:11within the ruling Pathai party which many view with skepticism. For a while,
00:15things remained relatively clam with the public focusing on his policies. However,
00:20that stability was shattered when Setha found his fate in the hands of the Constitutional Court
00:26after he appointed Pichit Chuenban as the Prime Minister's Office Minister. Since Pichit had a
00:31criminal conviction related to bribery, Setha was ruled to have violated ethical standards.
00:36As a result, he was swiftly removed from office. In the aftermath of this turmoil,
00:41Pathai party leader Paethongthan Chinawat emerged as the new Prime Minister. She made history as
00:46the youngest person ever to hold the office and became the third member of the influential
00:50Chinawat family to lead the country. However, her rise has not been without controversy. Critics
00:56have claimed that she is behind the shadow of her father Thaksin Chinawat who now is in an
01:00active involvement in politics after returning from self-exile last year. The future of Paethongthan's
01:06government remains uncertain. With Thailand's political landscape still highly unstable,
01:11it is unclear whether her leadership will bring lasting change or if it will quickly
01:15unravel just as her predecessor did.
