00:00The number of road accidents this holiday season has increased and it's the highest in the past five years.

00:08EJ Gomez has more.

00:14On the eve of Christmas, the rider of a motorcycle fell and hit a car in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

00:21The injuries were reported by the authorities.

00:26That's just one of the more than 400 accidents this holiday season.

00:30From December 22 to 6 a.m. on December 29, according to the Department of Health,

00:36it's 38% higher than the same time in 2023.

00:40Today, 68 people were injured.

00:44Almost 300 of them were motorcycle injuries.

00:4770 people were drunk.

00:49More than 350 did not use safety accessories such as helmets.

00:54Ruben has been a rider for several decades.

00:56He was the victim of an accident of a Kapua rider.

00:59Here, he hit me on the back of my foot. I fell.

01:02That's why Rafael, a motorcyclist, is always careful to avoid accidents.

01:07I always remember my family.

01:09So, just be careful even if the road is wide. You don't have to rush.

01:14According to the DOH, the number of road accidents in 2024 is the highest in the past five years.

01:21Based on their records, the average road accidents reached 252 cases every five years since 2019.

01:30Accidents involving truck drivers are also increasing.

01:35The truck owner and the truck driver are equally responsible to make sure that their vehicle is roadworthy,

01:41it is not overloaded, it's in good working condition.

01:44According to the DOH to motorcyclists,

01:46let's not drink.

01:48So that we can reach our goal of life and whole,
