00:00Getting arrested is a rite of passage for many actors, and they usually wind up walking
00:04free before long.
00:06However, these film and TV stars might be behind bars for the rest of their lives.
00:11Ryan Grantham is a Canadian actor who made his screen debut in 2007.
00:15He's probably best known for his role in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but he also popped up in a
00:19couple episodes of Supernatural and one episode of Riverdale.
00:23Sadly, that 2019 Riverdale appearance will be his swan song as an actor.
00:28In 2022, Grantham pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge.
00:33He received a life sentence in September that year.
00:36Grantham suffered from various mental health issues, leading him to plot out several acts
00:40of violence.
00:41In March 2020, he killed his mother, allegedly to spare her from seeing what he would do
00:46next.
00:47Grantham then intended to assassinate the Canadian prime minister or carry out a mass
00:51shooting at his college campus.
00:53He loaded his vehicle with weapons and set out, but instead turned himself into the authorities
00:58the following day.
00:59The prosecutors cited a consensus opinion that Grantham was experiencing depression
01:03before he killed his mother and planned to kill others.
01:06Grantham's first opportunity to appeal for parole will come in 2036.
01:11Danny Masterson made his television debut when he was only 11, but a decade passed before
01:16he landed his career-defining role.
01:18From 1998 to 2006, Masterson portrayed Stephen Hyde in the celebrated sitcom That 70s Show,
01:25starring in 200 episodes before the show wrapped.
01:28Masterson found a few TV, film, and voice acting roles before locking down The Ranch.
01:33The successful comedy saw him reunited with The 70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher.
01:38However, he lost that gig in 2017, when several longstanding allegations of sexual assault
01:43became too loud to ignore.
01:45In May 2023, Masterson was found guilty of two counts of forcible rape and sentenced
01:50to 30 years to life.
01:52He faced a third rape charge, but it was ultimately dismissed.
01:55He will serve two consecutive prison terms of 15 years, but could very well remain behind
02:00bars for the rest of his life.
02:02His unnamed victims report assaults that occurred while That 70s Show was on the air.
02:07Both Masterson and his victims are members of the Church of Scientology.
02:11According to ABC News, the women claimed that the church discouraged them from speaking
02:15up against the attacks.
02:17As their lawyer said in a statement,
02:19"...despite persistent harassment, obstruction, and intimidation, these courageous women helped
02:24hold a ruthless sexual predator accountable today, and they are not stopping there.
02:29They are eager to soon tell the fuller story of how Scientology and its enablers tried
02:33desperately to keep them from coming forward."
02:35Now the three women in this case told the judge that Masterson's crimes had ruined their
02:40lives and asked the judge to give the actor life behind bars.
02:44Michael Jase was a notable character actor throughout the 90s and 2000s.
02:48He appeared in classics like Forrest Gump and Boogie Nights, and once played Michael
02:52Jordan in a TV movie.
02:54His most iconic role came in 2002, when he portrayed Officer Julian Lowe in FX's The
02:59Shield.
03:00Running for seven seasons, the series became a celebrated predecessor to prestige TV shows
03:05like Breaking Bad.
03:07Jase's role as a corrupt cop was the high point of his career, which had few other notable
03:11performances.
03:12That lack of work contributed to money problems, which heightened tensions with his wife, April
03:17Jase.
03:18Those issues, alongside a history of domestic violence, came to a head in 2014.
03:23Jase was convicted of murder after fatally shooting his wife.
03:26He reportedly sent a message to his father-in-law and confessed his actions before calling 911
03:31on himself.
03:32Terrified of his wife seeing another man, and furious after she asked him for a divorce,
03:38Jase shot her once, then twice more in front of their sons.
03:41I didn't commit first-degree murder, there was no premeditated pump, anything."
03:48Jase received a 40-year sentence at the age of 53, practically guaranteeing that he would
03:52spend the rest of his days in prison.
03:54In 2019, California's Second Court of Appeal suggested sending the case back to trial after
04:00a change in state laws, but the California Supreme Court refused to hear the case.
04:05As of fall 2024, Jase's fate remains unchanged.
04:09Joe Sun might be best known for his final acting performance, but he was mostly a mixed
04:13martial arts fighter.
04:15Though with a record of zero wins and four losses, acting might have been a better direction.
04:20His most iconic role was in the first Austin Powers movie.
04:24He portrayed Random Task, a parody of Oddjob from Goldfinger, who attacked his enemies
04:29by throwing a shoe rather than a hat.
04:31Outside of that classic Mike Myers comedy, Sun popped up in a few bad action movies and
04:36briefly wrestled for All Japan Pro Wrestling.
04:39That's pretty much the end of his performing resume.
04:42Sun received a life sentence for a kidnapping and rape he committed with a co-conspirator
04:46in 1990.
04:47Sun was eventually brought to justice when, after he confessed to felony vandalism in
04:522008, a DNA test linked him to the 1990 attack.
04:56He received his life sentence three years later, but then added another charge to his
05:00incarceration.
05:02While in Wasco State Prison, Sun allegedly killed his cellmate in a brawl.
05:06He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to an additional 27 years.
05:12Kaelin K.R.
05:13Walker is a young actor and rapper who made his cinematic debut in the 2017 drama Kings.
05:18The film followed a foster family in the weeks immediately preceding the Rodney King verdict
05:23and resulting uprising.
05:24He appeared in two episodes of the short-lived BET courtroom drama In Contempt the following
05:29year, but Walker's most notable role came in director X's Superfly.
05:34The 2018 project, a remake of the 70s blaxploitation classic of the same name, came from producer
05:40Joel Silver and rapper Future.
05:42Walker portrayed Juju, arguably the main antagonist of the piece and an engaging role for the
05:47young performer.
05:49Walker's career was short, as the LAPD arrested him the same year he starred in Superfly.
05:54Four years later, he was convicted of three counts of forcible rape and other sexual crimes,
05:59and was sentenced to 50 years to life in federal prison.
06:02Walker's methods involved reaching out to aspiring models through social media, promising
06:06opportunities, and sexually assaulting them.
06:09He was 27 when he received his sentence, suggesting he'll be 77 once he serves out his full 50-year
06:15term.
06:16But of course, life imprisonment is still very possible.
06:20In 2024, Walker issued a long Instagram post that assured his fans that he was doing well
06:25behind bars.
06:27He reported his success in college, involvement in multiple positive groups, and work aiding
06:32elderly fellow inmates.
06:34Dennis Roldan wore a lot of hats before he entered his lifetime prison sentence.
06:38He was an actor with nearly 60 credits under his belt, a politician, and a moderately successful
06:44basketball player.
06:45Roldan was a celebrated performer who once took home the 1983 Metro Manila Film Festival
06:50Award for Best Supporting Actor.
06:52His acting career covered a wide variety of styles and genres, and he had consistent roles
06:56in a few TV series in the Philippines while also making time to appear in several movies.
07:01Unfortunately, Roldan was charged with kidnapping a 3-year-old boy with two co-conspirators
07:06in 2005, but walked free for nine years after making bail.
07:11In 2014, he faced a local judge and received a life sentence at the New Bilibid Prison
07:16in Muntalupa City.
07:18With his co-conspirators having died before their trials took place, Roldan proclaimed
07:22his innocence.
07:23The most condemning piece of evidence came from a telecommunications company employee
07:28who testified to texts from the victim's mother that were found on Roldan's cell phone.
07:32Those messages showed that Roldan had reportedly demanded 200 million Philippine pesos, or
07:37just under $3.5 million, for the boy's release.
07:41After Roldan's arrest, the series My Destiny killed off his character.
07:45His co-star Tom Rodriguez expressed shock in an interview and stated that he intended
07:50to visit Roldan behind bars.
07:52Craig Carm Gillespie is a minor Australian actor best known for a couple of appearances
07:57on the police procedural series Blue Heelers.
08:00Gillespie largely quit acting in 2009 and developed a decent career for himself as a
08:05property investor, eventually teaching courses and giving motivational speeches.
08:09However, in 2013, he went to China and never returned.
08:14He was always a very forward person on the internet, and he was not making any outcries.
08:21Several friends looked into his disappearance, only to discover that he was being held in
08:25a Chinese prison for seven years after allegedly attempting to transport 7.5 kilograms of methamphetamine
08:31out of the country.
08:33In 2020, he received a death sentence, but several sources maintain that there's more
08:37to the story.
08:38According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Gillespie's business partner claims he is the victim of
08:43a setup, saying,
08:44"...he was over there meeting investors for a deal.
08:47They asked him to carry presents back to their partners in Australia, which included handbags.
08:52The drugs were in the handbags.
08:54It was a setup."
08:55The Guardian spoke to BBC foreign correspondent Peter Humphrey, who was also detained in China
09:00for several years.
09:01Humphrey accused the Chinese government of using Gillespie as, quote,
09:05"...a point of leverage and negotiation which they can inject into their discussions with
09:09the Australian government."
09:10Though Chinese state media denies any connection between Gillespie's case and their relationship
09:15with Australia, Gillespie's situation remains grim.
09:19In fairness, Bobby Beausoleil is more of a convict who occasionally did some acting.
09:24This infamous member of the Manson family was sentenced to death way back in 1970 for
09:28the 1969 murder of Gary Hinman.
09:31Thanks to a change in California policy, Beausoleil's sentence was commuted to lifetime imprisonment.
09:36He's made several unsuccessful attempts to apply for parole, but remains in prison as
09:40of 2024.
09:41He was 74 at the time of his last parole hearing, which was denied, and he'll be 77 for his
09:47next attempt in January 2025.
09:50It's safe to assume that, despite his best efforts, Beausoleil will likely spend the
09:54remainder of his life behind bars.
09:56Beausoleil's acting career was considerably shorter than his prison sentence.
10:00His first role was in The Ramrodder, an X-rated project from 1969, and the second is the short
10:06Invocation of My Demon Brother by Kenneth Anger.
10:10Beausoleil also appeared in the cult classic 1967's Mondo Hollywood.
10:14It's technically a documentary, but he and the other performers also played characters,
10:19making it a bit tough to place.
10:21Beausoleil is much more prolific as a musician, providing the score for a few projects while
10:25behind bars, including the experimental film Lucifer Rising.
10:30If you or anyone you know has been a victim of sexual assault or child abuse, please contact
