Continuing a tradition he started 27 years ago, a veteran firefighter dressed as Santa Claus rappels from a bridge to deliver gifts to children from low-income neighborhoods in the Guatemalan capital two days before Christmas. At the age of 78, Hector Chacon, a major in the municipal fire department, descends from the Las Vacas bridge, a 75-meter former railroad crossing in the northern part of Guatemala City.

00:22Very well, we are here again fulfilling the dream of many children of scarce resources
00:28who live precisely in these settlements.
00:31The children of this sector have grown up thinking about the possibility
00:36that Santa Claus comes for Christmas and gives them a gift.
00:41Well, it's a pretty nice emotion because they love to see how the bridge descends
00:46and they will receive it with great joy that year after year they wait for it, right?
00:50Well, my daughter is one of them, she spends counting the months
00:54to tell me when Santa will come, when Santa will come.
