A ceasefire deal with Hamas in Gaza might eventually lead to one with Yemen’s Houthis too but that is by no means certain, former Israeli Deputy National Security Advisor Charles David Freilich says.

00:00The Houthis have said since the 7th of October that they're operating in solidarity with
00:05the Palestinians. And I'm just wondering whether you see here the automatic de-escalation or
00:11the automatic end to hostilities with Yemen if a ceasefire deal in Gaza is indeed struck?
00:19Well, first of all, we have to see that the deal is struck. We've faced periods of heightened
00:25optimism numerous times in the last year plus, unfortunately. Maybe this time, hopefully,
00:33it'll prove different. If the Houthis really mean that their attacks were related to the
00:41Gaza war, then logically, your question would lead to the conclusion that, yes, they will
00:47stop firing at Israel, and that will lead to an immediate ceasefire. I hope that's the
00:52case. I hope they haven't become too enamored of their role as the last standing force in
01:00the axis of resistance. And they do have an ideological commitment to Israel's destruction.
01:08We'll see. It's early to say. Hopefully, that might make a difference.
