00:00Hello, I'm Nathan Judah, I'm here with Wolves supporters, Mr Liam Keane, live from Compton
00:13Park, although you're not watching it live, you're watching it pre-recorded, but we are
00:16live as it happens. We've been speaking to Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach, Mr Vitor
00:22Pereira, his first press conference, pre-match press conference, unveiling I guess, you could
00:30say unveiling, ahead of the big game, and it is huge on Sunday against Leicester City.
00:38But first of all, the man himself, we got to see him, got to see his lovely mug, he
00:41sat down, I thought he actually spoke very, very well. Yeah, I think so, he came across
00:45pretty well, pretty firm, polite, you know, the kind of things you want from a press conference
00:51with a manager, but the fans will be more interested in what he can do with the players
00:54on the pitch, and he was very clear in his tactical identity, about his attention to
00:59detail, about demanding more from the players, and he came across pretty well, his English
01:04was pretty good, I mean there was a couple of small moments, but otherwise. As always
01:07with you. Yeah, absolutely, and a few of our journalist friends in there, but absolutely
01:14spot on. Yeah, look, he was, he came across well, it was no thrills, no spills, middle
01:24of the ground, kind of the way he wanted to play it. Don't promise the world, but enough
01:29to gee fans up and get them ready for Sunday. I guess one of the main topics that were discussed
01:33was discipline, you know, of course, we'll come on to Mateusz Kunia in a bit, but look,
01:37this is a running trend, isn't it, and he was quite strong on that. He was, in the embargo
01:43section, so I can't talk about it. No, I'm joking. He was very clear on it, he was very
01:48clear that Wolves cannot continue down the path they're going on with players, stepping
01:53out of line really, and there will be repercussions for that, but he seems like someone who would
01:57be quite close with his players, I think the vibe he was giving off, someone who I think
02:01would not tolerate it, but certainly speak to them and try and come to a conclusion for
02:08it, and look, he's got big decisions to make, not only with team selections, captaincy,
02:12things like that, there's lots of things going to be happening with Wolves, and I think
02:15it'll be exciting. And wants to create an identity as well at this football club. He's
02:20not here, you know, whether we can speculate, and we did on the podcast this week, whether
02:23he'll be here for six months, whether he'll be here for 18 months, or beyond that. Look,
02:27let's hope he's beyond that, because that means that Wolves have stayed in the Premier
02:30League and they're doing very, very well in the league, but I think he's quietly confident
02:34in what he's seen on the training ground as early as it is, that he can do something special
02:38with this team. He's been desperate, and I think that was the main thing to come across
02:41in the press conference, desperate to get, to prove himself in the Premier League. It's
02:45been, Everton's been very, very close, but he's got this opportunity with Wolves-Hamilton
02:49Wanderers that probably a week ago he didn't expect, and he wants to grasp it with both
02:53hands. I think even though we've seen him have a lot of different clubs in his career,
02:57a lot of different clubs for one season, this is where he wants to be, and he's desperate
03:01to prove what he can do.
03:02Yeah, he kept going back to the 14 years, this has been a long time coming, it's been
03:10a lot of hard work, this is a job he's been ready for and desperate for for such a long
03:14time. Now that is going to breed the kind of enthusiasm for this job that you're going
03:20to need, because it's going to be tough. He's going to have to want to be there and want
03:26to make it happen. Some interesting points, like the captaincy thing, I don't know how
03:31you're going to bring that up, interesting to say that he's going to have to make a decision
03:34on that, so it's not guaranteed to be announced for Smedley.
03:36We were expecting it, weren't we? I think when Gary O'Neill came in, you know, he's
03:40said that he'd go with Max Killman as well as the club captain, because he was already
03:45in place, wasn't he?
03:46After Lopetegui left the A-Z.
03:47And so you expect that really to come in, Vito Pereira, Portuguese coach, so it was
03:50a bit of a surprise that he left that door open, he says he wants to assess his players
03:54and then he'll make a decision in maybe two, three, four weeks.
03:56Yeah, he said he wanted to look at who are the leaders on the pitch, who emerges as the
04:00candidates, so look, it may be Samedo, it may not be, so that'll be an interesting one
04:03to watch, and of course interesting to see how the line-up is on Sunday and who captains
04:07the team.
04:08Alongside that, Gary O'Neill's final press conference at the end of Ipswich, before he
04:11left the club, was to say that essentially the answers are not really in this dressing
04:16room, the players are struggling, he needs more, Vito Pereira was very clear there that
04:21yes, we're going to have to do some stuff in January, but I think the answers are here,
04:26I think the players are good enough, I think we can get more out of the players, that's
04:29a very interesting, deliberate message to get across, because he spoke a lot about confidence
04:34and I think that's going to be really, really important to these players, and that new lease
04:38of life, breath of fresh air going into Sunday, hopefully will help them up the stairs.
04:41Yeah, you can talk about the players being emotional and too emotional, we've been there
04:44and done that, but I think confidence almost goes hand in hand, it's that confidence that
04:48some of these players need to return, some of these players are just bang out of form,
04:51aren't they?
04:52Yeah.
04:53And that's what you need to get, the likes of Wang Yi-Chan, the likes of a lot of the
04:56players who've been on the bench recently, it's instilling that confidence and instilling
04:59them into the play so they can show what they can do, because this is a talented bunch,
05:02and you look at it, and you start the season, I don't think we expected Wolves to be in
05:0619th, I don't think many fans expect them to be 19th, you can say, some people can say
05:10in hindsight, well we did, but we didn't expect them to be in this position, but what they
05:13can do on Sunday, and most importantly, is if they can beat Leicester City, they are
05:16right back in that mix, but what they cannot do, fingers crossed, is lose that game, and
05:21then there's a big gap.
05:22Most importantly is the news after the press conference, that Mateus Cunha hopefully should
05:27be available for this game.
05:29Yes, it looks likely that will be the case, they have yet to hear back from the FA on
05:33any potential ban, until they do hear back from him, he's free to play, now it's likely
05:39somebody could come in later today, but it seems unlikely, no, no, no, it's possible,
05:43sorry, that's what I meant, possible that somebody could come in later today, but at
05:46the moment it seems likely that he will be available to play on Sunday, so massive bonus,
05:51I think when he does get a ban, I say when, because it's likely he will do, it's probably
05:55going to be a minimum three games you would expect, that hopefully would include the Bristol
06:00City FA Cup game, depending on when this comes in and how long the ban is, which will take
06:04a little bit of the blow off, but yeah, it's one that we're expecting probably to get banned,
06:10but it's when, and at the moment it looks like he'll be available for Sunday.
06:14No Pablo Sarabia, but Jose Sar has trained this week.
06:17Sar has trained, Sarabia he said it's not possible for him to be available with his
06:21calf issue, so that's not a major surprise, and as far as we're aware, no other concerns,
06:27but I mean it's anyone's guess what this team's going to be, it's anyone's guess.
06:32You should nail the 11 here.
06:33Okay, I'll go what I said on the poddy, I'm going to go through, Sar, a back five, Tomedo,
06:40all three centre-halves, Bueno, Dawson, Totti, Dock a left wing-back.
06:44Has he got a track record of playing a three, five wing-backs?
06:46Yes, I mean he's played a four as well, but it is his last club, but Sarabia has played
06:49that as well.
06:50I will go with Thurgood Field, Lamina and Charles Gomez, and Charles Gomez will be his
06:56boy by the way.
06:57I'm going to go Cunha, Larsen, and that third spot is difficult, Goncalo Guedes, it could
07:06be anyone, it could be you playing up there with the two of them, it could be, God knows,
07:09but we'll go with that.
07:10I mean to be honest, with a third person, some of these games this season I might be
07:13more used to them.
07:14To be fair, you'd probably be better than Bela Guardiola against him.
07:16Oh!
07:17My eyes!
07:18Absolutely clear.
07:19Just saw him, you said hello to him in the corridor.
07:20He doesn't know who I am, he's got no idea.
07:23Final score prediction?
07:24I'm going to go Big Five Golf Thriller, Leicester City 2, Wolverhampton Wanderers 3.
07:30We're both staying positive, we're both excited, 3-1 Wolves, let's go.
07:33And it's just nice to get the fans back on board and something to hopefully look forward
07:35to, big game.
07:36If they can win this, it changes a lot, doesn't it?
07:39Going into a big Boxing Day game at home, first home game with the new manager, it's
07:43a massive game for a lot of reasons, just don't lose it, please.
07:45Peter Pereira is the new Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach for all to build upon the big game
07:49against Leicester.
07:50Make sure you look up to Express The Star.
07:51Hi Dot!
07:52Come on!
