00:27But it wasn't Larry David's first memorable and slightly disastrous brush with televised
00:31sketch comedy.
00:32In his first-ever TV comedy job, Larry served as a staff writer and cast member on ABC's
00:38short-lived late-night sketch show and failed competitor for Saturday Night Live, titled
00:42Fridays, which ran from 1980 to 1982.
00:46On an early episode of Fridays, he played a butt-kicking, matzah-splitting rabbi and
00:51martial artist in a parody of Kung Fu films called Enter the Matzoy.
00:55Written and directed by future Curb Your Enthusiasm director Tom Kramer.

01:02Fridays represented Larry David's big-ish break, and the project also marked his first
01:07collaboration with fellow cast member and future Seinfeld star Michael Richards, though
01:12they wouldn't work on a true hit together until the end of the decade.
01:15When Fridays bit the dust in 1982, Dick Ebersole attempted to recruit his competitor's entire
01:20cast in order to expand the conquering SNL's ranks, though most of the actors declined
01:25the invitation.
