CHELSEA, 22, describes her cybergoth style as "futuristic, very post-apocalyptic, alien robot-esque" - a look she has been fascinated by from a young age. At 12 years old, Chelsea saw a cybergoth woman "industrial dancing" and as soon as she got her first job as a teenager she started buying the materials to make her own cyberlocks - strikingly colourful wigs made to "resemble tubes and machinery equipment". From there, Chelsea's aesthetic was locked in and although her look draws constant stares and nasty comments from others when she is out in public, she is now immune to the judgement. However, when she met her girlfriend Abby two years ago, Chelsea became aware that Abby was also "impacted by the staring and judging" - as Abby was previously into girls that were "not extreme alternative". So today, with the help of makeup artist Kaleb, Chelsea is transforming into a "basic normie" to surprise Abby on her birthday - and the risk is not lost on her. Will Abby prefer Chelsea with eyebrows and "basic" hair? Will she want Chelsea to wear more "normal" clothing from here on out? Or will Abby just want her cybergoth girlfriend back in time for birthday date night?

00:59A cyber-goth is a fusion between goth, raver,
01:03and rivet head.
01:06The more goth parts, I would say,
01:07would be like my corset or my skirt
01:11and the big platform boots.
01:13And for the more cyber aspects, I would say my bright fishnets
01:16and goggles and mask.
01:19My cyber locks, for sure.
01:20I make them myself.
01:21Cyber locks are so important to the look,
01:25the cyber-goth look, because they
01:27are meant to resemble tubes and machinery equipment.
01:31These took about four days to complete,
01:37but this pair took way longer because it's way thicker,
01:41maybe about a week or so.
01:45I came across this aesthetic when I was
01:47about 12 years old on YouTube.
01:49I stumbled across a video of a cyber-goth woman
01:54industrial dancing, and I was like, that's really cool.
01:58I want to learn more about that.
01:59And I didn't have money to buy my tube as a kid,
02:03so I would just go to thrift stores
02:06and find anything that was dark and spooky enough.
02:10And eventually, I found resources
02:13to dress how I want to.
02:15Today, I am changing my look from cyber-goth
02:19to more of a basic normie type of girl.
02:25I'm doing a natural, dewy look.
02:31Kind of like a lot of nice neutrals,
02:33some glittery, like sparkly, nothing crazy, though.

03:25I guess her type was more, like, not extreme alternative.
03:29We definitely do get stared at and judged.
03:32People would, like, yell at me.
03:35I've been called worthless and, like, a cutter
03:38or very stereotypical towards alternative people.
03:42I do think Abby's been impacted by the staring and judging,
03:46but I think within being with me for the past two years,
03:49she's gotten adjusted to it,
03:51and she doesn't let it bother her like me.

04:04just because it's lightweight and a little translucent almost.

04:13It's a little cool just to cancel out a little bit of the red undertones.
04:17When I think of, like, a cute girly-girl style,
04:20I think of, you know, like, long, natural hair and cutesy makeup.
04:26Just adding a little bit of the Rare Beauty.
04:29It's a hybrid of blush and highlighter,
04:32and I'm not putting past the center of her cheek when I apply it.

04:40This is completely new to me.
04:42Ever since discovering my style, I've always stuck with it.

04:48because I think it'd be really interesting to see myself in a different light.
