Transcript
00:00In 2019, a devastating fire engulfed the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
00:06At the time, many feared the loss of this iconic piece of history.
00:10Five years later, Notre-Dame is reopening its doors thanks to the incredible work of dedicated artisans and specialists.
00:18Assassin's Creed allows players to travel through time and live fictional adventures set among historical landmarks and breathtaking locations.
00:27Back in 2014, Assassin's Creed Unity was no exception, with architectural wonders down every street and across every rooftop.
00:36Exploring 18th century Paris together was thrilling.
00:41To celebrate Notre-Dame's reopening, we invite you to join Arnaud, our hero assassin, as we rediscover our recreation of Paris during the French Revolution.
00:53As Arnaud starts free-running across the rooftops, you can see the extraordinary detail that brings the city to life.
01:00Down on the street, citizens share their anger at the monarchy, and we can feel the growing tension throughout Paris.
01:07Arnaud's parkour skills and agility allow him to explore and move from building to building with almost complete freedom.
01:16As we make our way across the city, we can see the famous Notre-Dame.
01:21It took the development team more than two years to bring this iconic monument to life.
01:26Thanks to technological advancements, Unity was the first Assassin's Creed game to let you move from outdoors to indoor settings seamlessly, with no loading time.
01:37And now, as we enter the Notre-Dame, let's take a moment to appreciate its beauty and grandeur.
01:44Notre-Dame was recreated at true one-to-one scale, featuring stunning interiors.
01:56Its immense size enabled the developers to design intricate lighting and smoky effects, creating a vibrant, unique atmosphere.
02:06The spire you see here was completed in 1859 by Viollet-le-Duc, but it didn't exist when Arnaud roamed the streets of Paris in 1789.
02:16The Unity team researched its predecessor, a shorter, wooden spire, but due to limited information, and because the spire is such an important part of how we see the cathedral today, they made the anachronistic choice to include it.
02:31This decision not only honors the current design, but also lets you climb to the highest point of the game, enjoying a unique view of Paris.
02:42Beyond AC Unity, or coming to Paris, there are still more ways to explore our version of this architectural landmark.
02:50Ubisoft's VR experience Notre-Dame de Paris, Journey Back in Time, goes beyond the video game and offers a contemplative tour of the cathedral from its nave to its spire, ending with a spectacular hot air balloon ride over late 18th century Paris.
03:06We hope you enjoyed this tour, and see you in Assassin's Creed Unity.
