Watch: Warrnambool export Seamus Fitzpatrick is a saddle bronc rider
Transcript
00:00Thanks for joining us, Seamus. You've been competing in rodeos across Australia.
00:06Can you tell us a little bit about that?
00:08Yeah, it's been a really good year, riding up in South Australia,
00:12Northern Territory, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
00:16How did you get into the sport?
00:18Through family, really.
00:21I wanted to always be a jockey and then I got a little bit too big
00:26and I had a mate selling a saddle, so I thought I'd buy it and that's the rest of the history.
00:32And can you tell us about the specific discipline you're doing?
00:35Saddle bronc riding.
00:37And what does that sort of entail?
00:39It's a buck and horse, so you wear a flank to make a buck.
00:44With the saddle, you have a buck and rein and you've got to ride the horse for eight seconds
00:49and it goes off a score of 50 points to the horse and 50 points to the rider.
00:54And what's been your best result so far?
00:5680 points.
00:58And what was it like the first time you competed? Do you remember much about that day?
01:02Not really. I do, but I don't really want to remember it. I feel very flashed.
01:07You've improved a bit since then?
01:09I'd like to say so, yeah.
01:11And what's the biggest reason you compete in the sport?
01:14Obviously it's a lot of time and energy and hours that you put into it.
01:17Yeah, no, just the love for the sport and where it can take you across the world and country.
01:21Yeah, just the love of it, really.
01:23Excellent. Well, best of luck for the rest of the year and the next season.
01:25Thank you very much.
