00:00Penn State's Drew Allers coming back to, uh, his senior season in Happy Valley.
00:09And I said yesterday, Mike, I think he needs more seasoning.
00:12I've heard about his, uh, high draft stock.
00:16I am not buying it all that that kid is ready for the NFL.
00:20I never thought he was good at Penn State.
00:22In fact, I bet against him against Oregon because I said, he'll be the guy that costs
00:26him the game.
00:27Sure enough, two picks.
00:28He cost him the game.
00:30He's not ready for the NFL yet.
00:31No.
00:32I mean that those, what you're seeing, what you're hearing about him as a first round
00:36pick prospect is someone in the media trying to get attention.
00:40That's what it is.
00:42It's nothing more than that.
00:43Uh, and, and we shouldn't give credence to people who are just trying to get attention.
00:48We should give attention to legitimate, uh, analysis, legitimate reporting and drew Aller
00:54as a first rounder today.
00:57Come on.
00:58I mean, there's, there's no way he gets past like three tests at the combine before they
01:02start knocking him down rounds, uh, that that's not happening now.
01:07He's a promising talent still.
01:09He's got a long way to go.
01:10And part of it has been that he has not had elite receiving talent at Penn State.
01:17I think everyone's acknowledged that.
01:18I mean, he's doesn't have the Jahan Dotson's out there that they used to have at Penn State.
01:23Uh, they, they've had a pretty, uh, fallow period at that position.
01:28So it's harder for him to develop into a, uh, a NFL style playmaker, but it can come
01:34and they may do well, who knows, uh, uh, in the portal, uh, at that position and, and
01:40elevate Drew's development.
01:42But it's certainly not now.
01:43And that's why he wisely just chose to listen to people who know, uh, and I'm not saying
01:49me cause I, and I'm just talking about this for the first time, but listen to people who
01:53know and say, yeah, I, I need another year at Penn State.
01:57So you wrote about the kid that's leaving cause it costs them him.
02:03And this is the cost of doing business now in college football with this, uh, transfer
02:08portal vacuum that sucks guys out of programs.
02:12Like how about the Marshall?
02:13They fired the coach, the entire team quit, the entire team's going to the portal and
02:17they canceled their bowl game.
02:19I mean, kids are transferring now.
02:21Like I'm walking down to my mailbox.
02:24That is true.
02:26Uh, look, I, I, I don't blame this young man for doing this in, in the middle 2000s, probably
02:33around 2004.
02:34I'm going to say maybe a little right around then Joe Flacco left Pitt, uh, after he was
02:40beaten out for the starting job at Pitt.
02:42And in that, in that period, he had to transfer down a level in order to play immediately.
02:47He transferred to Delaware and a Delaware was a great program at that point and it worked
02:51out great for him.
02:52And he had a tremendous career that included a super bowl ring.
02:55Uh, but now you don't have to do that anymore.
02:58And that's the right thing.
02:59Uh, you shouldn't have to sit out a year.
03:02The first time you transfer, when you start doing it two and three times, I can be persuaded
03:07that that's not really right, but the first time it should be immediate.
03:12And that's, what's going to happen here.
03:14Uh, him having to leave the program now, uh, I suspect that once he realized that he had,
03:20if he wants, when Aller was coming back, uh, that he, he had to leave in order to get some
03:25time as a starting quarterback and to get, uh, a reasonable NIL payout in the move, uh,
03:31that he had to do it now that there were, the positions were closing around the country.
03:35Other people were being recruited.
03:37He had to get on that merry-go-round, uh, and you, look, the CFP championship is January
03:4420th.
03:45If he happens to choose West Virginia, which is one of the schools that's been mentioned,
03:48they start classes on the 13th.
03:50So he's got to be there, uh, at some point around there.
03:53So I totally understand why he would have to leave.
03:56And I kind of think Penn State said, if you're going to leave, go ahead.
03:59Wait, wait a minute.
04:01No one goes to class.
