00:00All right, guys, it is time to talk about the Super Bowl, baby, but not the game itself
00:12right now.
00:13Let's just focus on this halftime show because that seems to be a hotter topic than the game
00:20itself, which is crazy to think.
00:22But Lucas Widman, you got the details.
00:25What's up?
00:26So yeah, a lot of people have been debating this on social media since it was announced
00:30over the weekend that Kendrick Lamar was going to be the Super Bowl halftime show.
00:34A lot of people were saying, Lil Wayne deserves this because that's his home turf.
00:39He's said for years that that would be a complete honor for him and a real monumental moment
00:44of his legendary career.
00:46And the weird thing about it is we hadn't heard from Lil Wayne regarding the decision.
00:53That is until now.
00:55And he released about a two minute long social media video where he addressed the entire
00:59thing and he said, look, I'm sorry, guys, that I haven't spoken out about this sooner,
01:03but I've been completely broken over this.
01:07That hurt, hurt a lot, you know what I'm talking about, it hurt a whole lot.
01:17I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally
01:30putting myself in that position, like somebody told me that was my position.
01:35So I blame myself for that, but I thought that was nothing, you know, I thought that
01:41was nothing better than that, that spot and that stage and that platform in my city.
01:48And so I hurt, I hurt a whole lot, but y'all, y'all are amazing.
02:01It made me feel like I'm not getting this opportunity.
02:06When I felt like ****, you guys reminded me that I ain't **** without y'all, like I said,
02:15it broke me and I'm just trying to put me back together, but my God, have you all helped me.
02:24You know, it's getting kind of mixed reviews on social media.
02:27Some people are saying that Wayne's kind of coming off entitled here, that he felt like
02:32that was his job to lose.
02:34When you actually look back at previous Super Bowl halftime performers, Usher was not from
02:39Vegas, you know, and The Weeknd and Rihanna aren't even from the States.
02:43So it's like, what are we saying here and why did we think that Wayne was going to get
02:48this?
02:49Maybe it was because in LA they did a tribute to the West Coast, but regardless, Wayne is
02:52still very upset.
02:53I've also got news for Wayne.
02:55There have been a total of 10 Super Bowls in New Orleans.
02:59This will be the 11th.
03:00So if history is repeating itself, it's going to be back in New Orleans in no time.
03:04I mean, let's face it, it's always kind of seems like it's coming down to either New
03:07Orleans or Los Angeles.
03:08So it might be not this time, but in a few years, I bet you that they make this right.
03:13If that's the direction that everybody wants to go in.
03:16I don't know about that one, Ed.
03:18I mean, look, will the Super Bowl ever be in New Orleans again?
03:23Yes, absolutely.
03:26When is that going to be, though?
03:28Is that going to be 10 years from now, 15 years from now?
03:33Wayne has had health issues over the years.
03:35I hate to say it, but there's no guarantee that he's going to be around by then.
03:39There's no guarantee he's going to be able to perform by then.
03:44So like, if I'm looking at this from his perspective, yeah, this might have been my last shot.
03:50And it's tough, man, because, you know, yes, there might be a sense of entitlement, but
03:55I think that sense of entitlement has been earned.
03:59He is an A-list celebrity that is synonymous with New Orleans.
04:04I mean, when it's a huge city, an A-list city like New York City, all right, fine, there's
04:09like tons of celebrities that are synonymous with New York City.
04:12But New Orleans, not so much.
04:14That is Wayne's territory.
04:16So I could understand how he feels here on this one.
