Daniel Wales and Charles Hague-Jones react to Bristol Rovers sacking Matt Taylor as manager.
Transcript
00:00Daniel, looking at Bristol Rovers now, obviously, Matt Taylor sacked by the club, an incredibly
00:08poor position for them to be in at this stage of the season. Now, just looking back at his
00:13time, you know, it wasn't a smooth run and there was a lot of issues from the top to
00:18bottom, it seems, at Bristol Rovers. How do you sort of reflect on his time? How do fans
00:24reflect on his time? And what do you sort of make of the sacking in general? Is it the
00:28right time to do so? You know, ahead of the festive fixtures, they sit just above the
00:33relegation zone in League One. Now, it's obviously an incredibly competitive division as well.
00:39So how do they go about ensuring that they're there? And what's your sort of thoughts on
00:44Matt Taylor's sacking?
00:45Well, they've been sort of on a steady downward slide for the last few weeks, to be honest.
00:51And, you know, and we talked a few weeks ago about where they could be if they won some
00:57games and they didn't. You think, well, okay, they could solidify mid-table, but they haven't
01:03done that. And so Matt Taylor's sacking has been coming. I think it's fair to say the
01:09way it's going, the form hasn't improved. And if anything, they've just been conceding
01:14silly goals. The performances haven't been there. It's, if anything, it seems as if the
01:19players haven't been playing for him in the last few weeks or so. And as you say there,
01:24they are sat just above the relegation zone, two points above it, above Crawley, who currently
01:29sit in 21st place. The only, the one caveat for them is that the league is so tight and
01:36that a win could actually see them all the way up to as high as 13th because it's, you
01:42know, 24 points, Peterborough in 13th. It's so tight at the moment, but the way the form
01:49has been, the way the performance has been, it hasn't really looked like that's been very
01:53much something that's coming for them at the moment. And so it's only been going one
01:58way and I think they've tried to act quickly and act decisively. And to be fair to them,
02:05that's something that needs to happen. And so going forwards, obviously we don't know
02:09who will come in at this point, but they have got a job on their hands, but it's fair to
02:13say that not all is lost yet because of how tight things are in league one. And so I think
02:20that they just need to performances to improve, to be honest. I think that that's the main
02:25thing, but as I say, under Matt Taylor, they were going and many fans were complaining
02:30on social media and in real life as well, just about their most recent game that, you
02:35know, the players, the hearts weren't in it at all, to be honest. And that's always a
02:40sign when, you know, a manager's perhaps lost the dressing room and the players aren't playing
02:46for him and they want change as well. So as I say, it had been coming, but it's a sad
02:53end because you thought that they had some potential under Matt Taylor, but unfortunately
02:57for him and for them, it wasn't to be.
