00:03:34as well. He didn't know when he had obtained them, but at some point he must have done.

00:05:07quite specific to what planet they lived on. At some point, if Quinn wanted to earn the

00:05:12ring from the shop, he would have to come back to this planet through the portal. All

00:05:16in all, the shop was a good find. Quinn started to question the AI system further on how the

00:05:22shop worked, and he had explained that as long as he brought the items that it asked

00:05:25for, it would be able to auto-create it and give it to him.

00:05:30This was another excellent find, as usually after obtaining beast crystals, you would

00:05:34have to take it to a beast weapons crafter who would charge for the making of an item.

00:06:10him to check out the shadow tab, a whole new section of his system that had been added

00:06:15as soon as he obtained the ability. Underneath the tab was a list of around ten different

00:06:20skills, each one grayed out apart from the two skills he had learned previously. Below,

00:06:25he could scroll down further, but everything just appeared as several question marks.

00:06:29The first skill, Dimensional Storage. This skill will allow the user to store items into

00:06:35its shadow storage. As long as there is a shadow nearby, you can take out and put in

00:06:39items as you wish. This includes your very own shadow underneath your feet.

00:06:45If only I had this skill sooner, Quinn thought. Back in the storage room, there were many

00:06:49items that Quinn wished to bring with him. There were multiple skill books and ability

00:06:53books that he had already converted into EXP and wouldn't be able to gain anything again.

00:09:38skill it was slowly going down. He crept up slowly to Vorden in the stands going between

00:15:17Quinn then placed his hand into his shadow, as he did, his arm sunk into it, but he could

00:15:22feel nothing. He then thought of the piece of metal, and suddenly he could feel something

00:15:26in his hand. He pulled out the piece of scrap metal.

00:15:30The two continued to do more tests with the dimensional storage. Quinn found out that

00:15:34not only his shadow could be used to gain access to things, but also Vorden's shadow,

00:15:39or any shadow cast by the wall and buildings. When Quinn touched these shadows, they too

00:15:44would start to wiggle like his own shadow.

00:15:47The next test was to see if they could store items bigger than the shadow itself. Vorden

00:15:51gathered a bunch of chairs from the stadium, and formed them into one giant flat metal

00:15:56circle. Then Quinn placed one hand on the circle, while the other on his shadow to store

00:16:00the item. The shadow underneath his foot started to expand into the shadow created by the large

00:16:06circle. Eventually, the whole thing dropped inside. It seemed like the size of the item

00:16:11did not matter, and the good thing was it didn't take up any MC to use it.

00:16:15The next skill, as the one Quinn was looking forward to the most, Shadow Control, a skill

00:16:20that didn't say much in terms of description. Shadow Control Level 1 Active

00:16:26Then inside Quinn's mind, something had clicked. He felt like he had a new set of arms he could

00:16:31control. The shadow underneath his legs was alive, and could freely move about. He lifted

00:16:36the shadow, and it was like a dark moving mist that continually surrounded him.

00:16:40I guess the skill is limited to just the shadow around you for now. It's like a Level

00:16:441 Earth ability, said Vorden. I wonder why it needs so many mutant cells to activate,

00:16:49and is considered a Level 6. Using the shadow around him, Quinn was able

00:16:54to extend it out, and lift the small piece of metal that he pulled from his dimension

00:16:58earlier. It was like controlling another person. After using it for a while, Quinn seemed to

00:17:03get the hang of it. He could move the shadow to go anywhere around his body, or he could

00:17:08form it into whatever he liked, even weapons, but when changing it into a sword-like shape

00:17:13and trying to cut the metal, it did nothing but go around it. It seemed like the shadow

00:17:18sword did not have the same properties. Well, now that you got the hang of it, you

00:17:22want to spar a little? Vorden asked. Having the shadow just active and moving about

00:19:02the shadow to stay where it was before moving the shadow. The ball then carried on moving

00:19:06forward and banged into the stadium wall.

00:20:18a few other tests. If Vorden was close enough, he could use the shadow to grab onto him like

00:20:23an extra pair of hands, or even grab onto his legs, slowing him down. But there wasn't

00:20:28enough of the shadow to use it in both of these ways. He could simply either use the

00:20:33shadow to attack, or to defend.

00:20:35"'Well, I can see why your ability is a level six now,' Vorden said. "'I think it's more

00:20:40to do with how freely you can use the shadow, and my example would be the skills. Normally

00:20:45a skill would just be a different type of attack, but your ability, your shadows, can

00:20:49actually be used to do entirely new things. A separate storage space, masking you in the

00:20:54night and even as a defensive shield. It's almost as if you have three abilities combined

00:20:58into one.'

00:21:00Quinn was happy with the results of the shadow ability, and hearing Vorden talk about it

00:21:04made him feel even more confident. He couldn't wait to unlock the other skills in the shadow

00:21:09tab of his system.

00:21:11With the spar over, the two of them decided that once Quinn was fully rested and his MC

00:21:15points were back, they would exit out of the training center and go exploring again.

00:21:20After all, if they did nothing, they would soon start to starve, and Vorden didn't want

00:21:24another instance where Quinn got too hungry.

00:23:28"'Why do I have to carry this thing?' Del complained.

00:23:31"'Right now you're the weakest of us four, right?' Faye replied.

00:23:34"'So if you want us to protect you, it's best that you carry the portable teleporter.'"

00:23:39Del then looked at Haley who was by his side, and even he had to admit she looked quite

00:23:43frightening for a doctor. She was in a full set of large beast gear—a frightening-looking

00:23:48chest piece that looked to have a face on it and spikes sticking out of the shoulder

00:23:52pads. On her back she was carrying a large single greatsword that was nearly the same

00:23:57size as herself. She almost looked like a professional traveler that went hunting in

00:24:01these types of places all the time.

00:24:03"'Rich people, that's what happens when your father is a general in the army,' Del

00:24:08thought.

00:24:09"'Fine, I understand that, but why even the need to bring the portable teleporter

00:24:13in the first place? Isn't the teleporter fine on this end?' Del asked.

00:24:16"'It's back up,' Leo said.

00:24:18"'Look around you and look at this shelter. It was basically the size of a city. Don't

00:24:22you think they had people protecting it as strong as us? We might encounter a strong

00:24:26beast and have to make an emergency exit, or there might even be a beast blocking the

00:24:30current portal. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Okay, with that being said

00:24:34and done, let's head for the training center. I don't want to stay on this planet for

00:24:38long and I don't want to find out what destroyed this shelter.'"

00:24:41Leo walked up front and using his ability, the group were able to avoid trouble. In a

00:24:46way, although blind, his sight was better than the others. His ability allowed him to

00:24:50see an aura around things and see them in different colors.

00:24:54A beast's aura was always red, while humans' yellow. It also allowed him to see the aura

00:24:59through most objects, such as building walls and so on, allowing them to avoid any confrontation

00:25:05with beasts. However, if the group saw only a few rataclaw that they could deal with,

00:25:10instead of taking the long route around, Leo and Faye would often head out and deal with

00:25:13them quickly. The two of them were both swordsmen. While Faye would use her longsword, Leo would

00:25:19use his katana blade, not even giving the rats a chance to live.

00:25:23As they continued to walk, Hayley had a question on her mind after seeing the two of them deal

00:25:28with the rats.

00:25:29"'I've always wondered, which of you two are stronger?' Hayley asked.

00:25:33The two up front suddenly froze, and Del looked at Hayley like she had no sense of personal

00:25:37questions.

00:25:38"'Hey, you can't just ask something like that,' Del whispered.

00:25:42Of course he was interested, everyone was. These types of questions come up all the time.

00:25:47Faye and Leo were both of the same ranks, two of the eight sergeants at the school.

00:25:52Talk always happened between the other teachers and soldiers, about who was the strongest

00:25:56out of them all. This also happened regularly with the three generals.

00:25:59"'It's okay,' Faye said.

00:26:01"'I can easily answer for you. It's Leo. I don't know if you two know this, but we

00:26:06had to practically beg him to join our ranks after the first war. Back then he was only

00:26:10a private, but he had made so many accomplishments. It was unbelievable. He had one condition

00:26:15when joining the army. I would like to become a teacher.'

00:26:18Leo didn't say anything after that, in fact. He never spoke much in the first place, but

00:26:22Del was still wondering how it was possible.

00:26:25Leo's ability was handy, sure, and it might be a high-level ability, but that was only

00:26:30because it required a high amount of MC to use. Not because it was powerful. While Faye

00:26:35had the ability of super speed, if the two of them fought, there was no way he could

00:26:40see her losing.

00:26:41In the end, Del thought she must have just said that to be kind to her senior. Faye was

00:26:46still quite young, after all, only in her late twenties.

00:26:49Finally, the group had arrived just outside the training center.

00:26:53"'We'll make sure the portal is safe first, and then after we will go out looking for

00:26:57the kids,' Faye said.

00:26:58"'The entrance looks clear,' said Leo.

00:27:01They walked onward and eventually saw the dead Rataclaws just outside of the entrance.

00:27:06Not only that, but the entrance to the place was completely busted. It had been bent and

00:27:11mismangled, but was still covering the door.

00:27:14Faye went to the access machine and tried the code. The sound went off, indicating that

00:27:18it was unlocked, but the doors wouldn't move. They were too damaged.

00:27:22"'What happened here?' Haley asked.

00:27:23"'Do you think it was the kids?'

00:27:25"'I think you mean kid,' Del added.

00:27:27"'Only one of them has an ability, remember?'

00:27:30"'Ah, Vorden is the original, correct. His ability is to copy that of others. Although

00:27:35we don't really know how it works, it could be possible. If he copied a strong ability,

00:27:40then I could see him being able to kill these rats,' said Faye.

00:27:43"'Well, if we find Vorden, we can go home, right?' Del asked.

00:27:46"'Are you suggesting we leave and not bother looking for the other one?' Leo asked.

00:27:50"'The mission stated to only find Vorden. Anyone else is considered a bonus. Would you

00:27:55risk your lives for one student?'

00:27:56"'Would I join that war? What do you think I was doing?' Leo asked.

00:28:00"'I was risking my life for the sake of everyone. For the sake of the human race's future. And

00:28:04you know what? That is these children.'

00:28:06"'Enough, you two,' Faye snapped.

00:28:09"'Technically, Del is correct, but I see you are passionate about this. We will

00:28:13scout the nearby area using your ability. If we find nothing, then we leave. Fair?'

00:28:18Leo didn't say much and started to walk up to the door. He drew out his katana blade

00:28:22and readied himself.

00:28:24"'Isn't that door made out of glathrium? It's one of the hardest materials we know

00:28:28of. It's why this training center remained unharmed in the first place,' Del said, chuckling

00:28:33at the idiotic attempt Leo was about to make.

00:28:35"'I'm assuming you wanted to know why Leo is stronger than I am?' Faye asked.

00:28:40Leo slashed the door with one swing. No sound was made, and it seemed like the door wasn't

00:28:44even touched. Then, a few seconds later, a vertical slash was seen in the door, and the

00:28:49top half fell backwards onto the floor.

00:28:52"'That's why,' said Faye."

00:28:55After entering through the glathrium door, the group then went to lift the fallen part

00:28:59of the door up and place it back up. It was heavy, but with Haley's help, the door felt

00:29:03extremely light, and they managed to set it perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle. While it might

00:29:08not keep the beast out, at least, it would deter them from entering.

00:29:12Del watching the whole thing hated to think just how high a level of beast equipment Haley

00:29:16was wearing to be able to lift the door so easily. They continued to walk in the hallway,

00:29:21which was covered in darkness, although for Leo, leading the way, it made no difference.

00:29:26But while walking, Del couldn't get out of his head how easily Leo was able to break

00:29:30the door. It wasn't like Del was a student, he was a professor, too. He had participated

00:29:35in the war back then as well, and never saw anything like what he saw today.

00:29:40Could it be a demon-level weapon, he thought?

00:29:43But he quickly came to the conclusion that it was impossible. At the moment, there were

00:29:47only two demon-level beast weapons in existence. However, it was clear to Del that what Leo

00:29:52was using was at least a top-level beast-tier weapon.

00:29:56They had entered the reception area, where several doorways were leading to different

00:30:00sections of the training center. At the front, there was the reception desk with two hallways

00:30:04leading to the arena. Then there was the actual reception room, which could also lead

00:30:09you to the canteen and the living quarters.

00:30:11Wait, stop, Haley said to Leo and Faye up front. She bent down and studied the ground.

00:30:17Can you see what this is? It's blood and leading that way, she said as she pointed to the living

00:30:22quarters. How can you tell which direction it's coming from the stadium as well? Del

00:30:27asked.

00:30:28Well, the blood tail, you can see that it's heading in the direction, and there's a lot

00:30:32of it, almost as if someone was dragged this way.

00:30:35Come on, let's hurry, it could be one of the students, Faye said.

00:30:39They made sure not to rush, but quickly headed in the direction of the blood following the

00:30:43trail. If there was a beast inside, they needed to make sure they wouldn't startle it.

00:30:49Leo also no longer took the lead, and instead it was Faye. Usually, Leo's ability would

00:30:54allow him to detect auras and abilities through walls and such, but it didn't work through

00:30:59lathrium, and the whole place was made of it. Although he could still direct himself,

00:31:04he couldn't tell if there was danger up ahead until actually seeing it.

00:31:08They followed the trail until finally it led them to the hallway with a broken door outside

00:31:13and a ripped apart chair. Faye peeked her head into the room with the broken door and

00:31:18immediately turned away.

00:31:19Haley, I think you better take a look at this, Faye said, turning her head away.

00:31:24Haley took over and went inside the room, while Del also took a look and turned his

00:31:29head away.

00:31:30Did you see the body? Del said. Its body was ripped in half, guts spilling everywhere.

00:31:35Leo, who was standing next to him, turned his head and looked him in the eye.

00:31:39No, I didn't see anything. I haven't done so in a while now.

00:31:44Haley continued to examine the body. She went around the man's neck. Underneath his beast

00:31:49armor, she pulled out a colored dog tag.

00:31:52Again, two bite marks on the neck, just like the other students, Haley thought. Is there

00:31:58really a beast inside the academy somewhere, the same thing that killed this man? Or is

00:32:02it something else?

00:32:04Haley then stood up from the body and walked forward.

00:32:07Do you want the good news or bad news? She said.

00:32:11Just tell us everything, Faye replied.

00:32:13Well, the good news is it's not one of the students.

00:32:16Haley then pulled out the tag, which was attached to a chain, and dangled it in front of the

00:32:21others. The bad news is he was from one of the Big Four families.

00:32:25Each person's face dropped as soon as they heard the news.

00:32:28Which one? Faye asked.

00:32:30The tag says True Dream.

00:32:33Faye immediately slammed her fist against the wall as she heard those words. Why them

00:32:38out of all the families?

00:32:40The Big Four families were the ones who had the power to rival the military. However,

00:32:45the True Dream family was the most unique out of the four. They had the closest connection

00:32:50with the military, enough even to have a seat at the council table. This was all because

00:32:55of the head of the family, who had the ability to steal others' abilities. If anyone ever

00:33:00tried to rebel against the army, then they would get a visit from the True Dream leader,

00:33:05and they could never use their ability again.

00:33:08The only problem was, True Dream could only take away their abilities but not use them.

00:33:12So he needed a strong ally, and that's why he got close to the military.

00:33:17Even when he felt safe and protected, he started to gather his own men, the abilities

00:33:21he had taken. He would gift to those he trusted, and they were truly grateful to him. But there

00:33:27was always this fear in the back of his mind he could be betrayed by his own.

00:33:32With no powers for himself, he chose to stay by the military side. This fear kept people

00:33:37in line. This fear was what made people complacent with the system the military had today.

00:33:43Although many didn't agree with the cruel ways and the carrot-and-stick approach the

00:33:47current army had, they had no choice.

00:33:50"'We can leave him here for now, but it's best before we leave we bring his body and

00:33:54take it to the True Dream family. It's a pain, but they should be thankful we brought back

00:33:58one of their own,' Faye said.

00:34:01After leaving the Body B, they decided to follow the trail of blood back outside and

00:34:06into the stadium. And that's when they spotted the two kids lying down on the floor.

00:34:11"'They're here! What luck!' Del said as he ran forward.

00:34:14Haley, Faye, and Del immediately went forward while Leo was the only one who stayed back.

00:34:20For in the center of the arena, he could see a color of aura he had never seen before.

00:34:25One which was purple.
