00:00She woke up and was like, oh is that you?
00:02Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:04And today we're counting down our picks for the funniest moments
00:07when Robin Williams induced unscripted or unplanned laughter from the cast and crew.
00:12Well surely you must be the son of God.
00:22A seasoned pro of the screen,
00:24Philip Seymour Hoffman starred in many notable dramas
00:27and even won the Oscar in 2006 for playing Truman Capote.
00:34Point is, he doesn't seem like the type of actor who would break easily.
00:37Yet he and Robin Williams were having the time of their lives on the set of Patch Adams.
00:50Hoffman and Williams just can't seem to get through the scene
00:53in which Mitch introduces himself to Patch.
00:55They incessantly giggle like a couple of teenagers on a mind-altering substance
00:59and they can't make it two sentences without breaking.
01:10We wish we were on set that day.
01:12It seemed like a good time.
01:15Not at these prices.
01:17Okay, here we go. Last time. This is it.
01:23Robin Williams earned his first Oscar nomination for playing Adrian Cronauer,
01:27an armed forces DJ who keeps morale high during the Vietnam War.
01:35Adrian's hilarious broadcasts were largely improvised by Williams,
01:39with producer Mark Johnson saying they quote,
01:41just let the cameras roll.
01:45What resulted was cinematic magic,
01:48with many people losing their composure both in front of and behind said cameras.
01:52There's also a scene where Adrian breaks from the radio
01:55and entertains a group of G.I.s in person.
02:04Many of these extras did not speak English,
02:06yet they still laughed at Williams' physical mannerisms
02:09and their genuine laughter was included in the film.
02:14You're actually cartoon character Elmer Fudd.
02:16He was quoted as saying,
02:17Thank you, America. It was fun being president.
02:23One of Williams' more underrated comedies,
02:26The Birdcage contains one of the funniest scenes in his filmography.
02:30And it's not thanks to the script, but Williams himself.
02:33You've got to get in there. Everything is going to hell.
02:36You didn't make an entree.
02:38What? What do you mean? We just had soup?
02:42A peasant soup is an entree. It's like a stew.
02:45What do you think I put so much in it for?
02:47Shut up!
02:48Armand, Val and Agidor are panicking inside a kitchen
02:51and Armand eventually slips on the floor.
02:53Shut up!
02:55Williams genuinely slipped and fell
02:57and Armand telling Agidor that he was alright
02:59was actually Williams informing Hank Azaria.
03:01It's okay. We're alright.
03:03Funnily enough, Williams is the one who breaks from this mistake.
03:07While the other two are mostly successful in keeping a straight face,
03:11it's Williams who briefly giggles while desperately trying to stay in character.
03:15What are you standing there for? Go! Go!
03:17She'll be here in a minute. Go!
03:22Robin Williams clearly had a penchant for making
03:24even the most professional of actors laugh.
03:26He stars alongside screen veteran Ben Stiller in Night at the Museum,
03:30playing a living wax sculpture of Theodore Roosevelt.
03:33Climb aboard, boy.
03:35Take the hand, son.
03:37One scene required Stiller to kneel over Williams as he lay in the snow.
03:40And for some reason, it brought out the giggles.
03:43Listen, I'm fine.
03:44All we have to do now is to do something
03:46because half the museum's running amok. I'm sorry.
03:48They're barely able to string three words together without laughing.
03:52And at one point, director Sean Levy can be heard telling them to, quote,
03:56take a breath.
03:57Stiller's little jig does nothing to help and he breaks again,
04:00forcing Levy to finally call cut.
04:03Cut it!
04:04We don't blame Stiller. We'd be laughing too.
04:07Number six. Farting. Patch Adams.
04:09We return to the medical comedy for the most universal form of humor.
04:13That of a good, loud fart.
04:15The camera is slowly panning into Williams when he lets loose,
04:18forcing an immediate breaking of character from everyone around him.
04:26Stop!
04:27Monica Potter smiles and looks a bit disgusted
04:29while Daniel London immediately laughs and turns to a slightly embarrassed Williams.
04:34Stop!
04:35And while we don't see Philip Seymour Hoffman's reaction,
04:38he's clearly grinning when the camera pans back to him.
04:41Williams doesn't even have to open his mouth to get everyone around him laughing.
04:45Such is the connective power of a good toot.
04:48Number five. Making Elmo cringe. Sesame Street.
04:52Robin Williams starred multiple times on Sesame Street,
04:55often bearded and wearing both a baseball cap and a colorful shirt.
04:59What are you going to do with that stick?
05:01Oh, Elmo, there's lots of things you can do with this stick.
05:03You can start off, you can be playing baseball in the World Series.
05:06Hit it over the fence and realize, I'm the one!
05:09He appeared during the 1991 special Big Bird's Birthday or Let Me Eat Cake,
05:13showing Elmo the imaginative power of a simple stick.
05:16The 2018 documentary Robin Williams Come Inside My Mind
05:20contains outtakes from the segment,
05:22and they are every bit as enjoyable as you would think.
05:25Maybe it could be like a baton.
05:27There you are conducting a full orchestra.
05:30Thank you, Madonna, for that lovely lingerie melodia.
05:33I better go back. We'll never be able to do that.
05:36I realize.
05:38The clips ooze with charm,
05:40as Williams makes the crew laugh with his silly antics.
05:43The funniest part comes when Elmo accidentally calls him Mr. Robbins,
05:47prompting a great reaction that warms the heart and soothes the soul.
05:51Oh, thank you, Mr. Robbins.
05:54Mr. Robbins?
05:56Taking the stick back, Elmo.
06:00Number 4
06:01Laughing with Robert De Niro
06:03Awakenings
06:04Not to belabor the he-makes-seasoned-pros laugh point,
06:07but come on, this is Robert freakin' De Niro we're talking about here.
06:10Ellen, if you could turn this way, please.
06:13It's a camera called a Polaroid.
06:16In fact, De Niro earned an Oscar nomination
06:18for playing encephalitis patient Leonard Lowe,
06:21proving that he was at the top of his game on set.
06:24Yet he couldn't help but laugh alongside his co-star.
06:28leading to a prolonged joke in which he starts doing another voice.
06:32It's an idea before it's time, but let's try it.
06:36I've wanted to talk like this for the entire movie.
06:39This voice makes De Niro laugh even harder,
06:41and to be honest, we don't think we've ever seen him like that.
06:44De Niro has always seemed like a very serious person,
06:47yet here he is belly laughing with the rest of us.
06:50Lenny and I have an idea.

06:53Making Everyone Laugh
06:55Whose line is it anyway?
06:56It's hard to name the funniest segment in Whose Line history,
06:59but may we suggest scenes from A Hat with Robin Williams?
07:04Williams was on fire the whole episode,
07:07elevating the energy and effort from everyone else.
07:10But he really shines during scenes from A Hat.
07:12It's just wall-to-wall hilarity,
07:14and the laughter literally never stops for three and a half minutes.
07:27You can make your relatives dance again!
07:30The audience is clearly having the time of their lives,
07:33and the other performers are often doubled over in laughter.
07:36Even the inscrutable Colin Mochrie laughs on more than one occasion,
07:39even though he's the one usually causing the breaking.
07:42Oh, to have been in that audience.
07:44Who's your daddy?
07:47Number 2
07:48Stuck in the Floor
07:49Jumanji
07:5090s kids may remember the visual of Alan Parrish being stuck in the wooden attic floor.
07:55The unfortunate result of playing the titular Jumanji.
08:02Even having his face stuck inside a prop floor
08:05isn't enough to stop Williams from bringing the heat.
08:07Bonnie Hunt gets the giggles acting alongside Williams' face,
08:10and frankly, we don't blame her.
08:12It'd be quite hard taking that visual seriously.
08:26Williams keeps the laughs and smiles coming,
08:29making jokes about religion,
08:31crafting stupid puns,
08:32and screaming in her face for no reason.
08:37And yes, just like Patch Adams, there's even a fart.

09:05The Fart Story
09:06Good Will Hunting
09:07Okay, so Robin Williams clearly had a thing for farting.
09:10Even a comedic genius such as him found value in it.
09:15Good Will Hunting is one of Williams' most serious roles,
09:18playing the grieving Sean Maguire.
09:20But he still finds time to squeak in a good fart joke.
09:25Sean tells Will a funny anecdote about his late wife tooting in her sleep,
09:29and the entire bit was ad-libbed by Williams.
09:35Will's reaction is genuine laughter from Matt Damon,
09:38and legend has it that the camera operator also chuckled,
09:41causing the screen to subtly shake.
09:43Not only is the speech hilarious,
09:45it also adds a beautifully and oddly touching dimension to Sean's character.
09:49Such was the genius of Robin Williams.
09:54What joke had you laughing the hardest?
