00:00Hello, I'm Flora Lau from Hong Kong. I'm the screenwriter and director of the film Loose,
00:11premiering at 2025 Sundance Film Festival's World Cinema Dramatic Competition. In the film,
00:18there's a place called Loose, a virtual realm where players seek a mystic deer,
00:22and it is here where our two main characters converge. The first story unfolds in Chongqing,
00:27a captivating city where Wei follows a livestreamer who's actually his lost daughter Fa.
00:31He ventures into the VR world for the first time to look for her. This is actually the
00:36first mental image I had for Loose. It encapsulates many themes I wanted to explore. What's real,
00:41what's fake, generational gap, family values, virtual mixed with real, and many more.
00:46The second narrative follows a Hong Kong gallerist Ren, who goes to Paris to take care of her dying
00:51mother Sabine, who chooses to live life to the fullest till the very end instead. Unable to cope,
00:57Ren retreats the comfort of the game in search for the deer. The deer is a spiritual symbol in
01:02many cultures, representing harmony, peace, and intuition. The deer is what ties everything
01:07together in the film. It embodies what we seek for in life. And this is Loose in a nutshell.
01:13Throughout the writing and filming of Loose, I've learned a great deal about myself and the
01:18world we inhabit. And I'm super thrilled to share this experience with you at our premiere in
01:23Sundance. I definitely hope that you can be there. And I'm super excited for you to share
01:30what your Loose is with us. See you there.
